INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT

The wonders of Geometry are present everywhere, in nature and in structures.


Designs and patterns having the same size and same shape play important roles especially on
the stability of buildings and bridges. This activity sheet will help you understand the
importance of those designs and patterns having the same size and same shape.

ACTIVITIES

Two triangles are congruent if their vertices can be paired so that corresponding
sides and corresponding angles are congruent.
Properties of Triangle Congruence
This definition is abbreviated as CPCTC, which means Corresponding Parts of
Congruent Triangles are Congruent.

Properties of Triangle Congruence


Reflexive Property ΔABC ≅ ΔABC
(A triangle is always congruent to itself.)
Symmetric Property If ΔABC ≅ ΔDEF , then ΔDEF ≅ ΔABC .

Transitive Property If Δ ABC ≅ ΔDEF and ΔDEF ≅ ΔGHI ,


then ΔABC ≅ ΔGHI

Examples:
1. List by pairs all the corresponding angles and sides that corresponds to each other and
then name the congruent triangles.

Answer: Look into the marks. The correspondence of the vertices can
be used to list all the corresponding angles and sides of the
triangles GHI ∧JKL. The congruent corresponding parts are
marked identically.
