Oxazepam (Serax)

Oxazepam is an anti-anxiety and sedative/hypnotic medication prescribed for anxiety. It works by potentiating the effects of the neurotransmitter GABA in the central nervous system. Common side effects include dizziness and drowsiness. Nurses should monitor for signs of hepatic dysfunction or additive CNS depression from other medications and assess the patient for anxiety levels and sedation before and after administration.
