Feed Characteristics:
1. The feed solids must have an average specific gravity in the range 2.5 to 3.2. Liquid must be water or an aqueous solution.
2. The feed concentration must be no greater than 30 percent solids by weight.
3. The feed must not be unusually viscous as might be true for feed with a high content of clay or primary slimes.
See the apex dia chart for underflow dry solid t/hr vs apex dia and accordingly choose the apex.

Primary Grinding Circuit:
Problem: Select the proper size and number of cyclones for a rod mill/ball mill circuit where new feed to the rod mill is 250 mtph solids.
Both mill discharges join together at cyclone feed sump and are pumped to cyclones.
Overflow is to be 60%-200#(74 micron) at a minimum of 40% solids by weight.
Underflow becomes ball mill feed.
SG of solids is 2.9 and estimated circulating load is 225%.
Step 1: Calculate material balance from known information. Overflow must be 250 mtph at 40%.

Applies when feed is coarser than the optimum size of feed(Fo)
Fo= 4000*(13/Wi)^0.5
Fo= 3854.496
As 3800 microns is finer than Fo,hence factor not applied
