Last Feb 12, we celebrated the Chinese New Year. 去年 2 月 12 日,我们庆祝了农历新年。新年好!

Qùnián 2 yuè 12 rì, wǒmen qìngzhùle nónglì xīnnián. Xin nian hao!
Before the pandemic, we are happy to celebrate the Chinese New Year! We make lanterns in the
classroom and eat Chinese food in the classroom. We also watched Chinese dance and dragon dance
performances, and enjoyed the fireworks show! 在大流行之前,我们很高兴庆祝农历新年!我们在教
室里做灯笼,在教室里吃中国菜。我们还观看了中国舞和舞龙表演,并欣赏了烟花表演!Zài dà
liúxíng zhīqián, wǒmen hěn gāoxìng qìngzhù nónglì xīnnián! Wǒmen zài jiàoshì lǐ zuò dēnglóng, zài
jiàoshì lǐ chī zhōngguó cài. Wǒmen hái guānkànle zhōngguó wǔ hé wǔ lóng biǎoyǎn, bìng xīnshǎngle
yānhuā biǎoyǎn!
However now, we are in a different situation. So, we have to celebrate Chinese New Year in our homes.
Last year, we decorated our class with lanterns. We used these envelopes to make lanterns. Now, I will
also make lanterns as our tradition in celebrating Chinese New Year. And Im going to share to you how I
make these lanterns at home.

During the Lunar New Year, Chinese lanterns can be seen everywhere. We can see them on trees,
buildings and houses. Most of them are round. The original use of Chinese lanterns was a light source for
people. However, with the development of practical light sources over the years, these lanterns are now
mainly used for decoration and ceremonial purposes. 在农历新年期间,到处可见中国灯笼。我们可以
在树木,建筑物和房屋上看到它们。他们大多数是圆形的。中国灯笼的最初用途是人们的光源。
但是,随着这些年来实用光源的发展,这些灯笼现在主要用于装饰和礼仪用途。Zài nónglì xīnnián
qíjiān, dàochù kějiàn zhōngguó dēnglóng. Wǒmen kěyǐ zài shùmù, jiànzhú wù hé fángwū shàng kàn dào
tāmen. Tāmen dà duōshù shì yuán xíng de. Zhōngguó dēnglóng de zuìchū yòngtú shì rénmen de
guāngyuán. Dànshì, suízhe zhèxiē niánlái shíyòng guāngyuán de fǎ zhǎn, zhèxiē dēnglóng xiànzài zhǔyào
yòng yú zhuāngshì hé lǐyí yòngtú.

Chinese red lanterns are not only used for simple decorations. They symbolize vitality, social status, and
are believed to eliminate bad luck. 中国红灯笼不仅用于简单的装饰。它们象征着活力,社会地位,
并被认为可以消除厄运。Zhōngguó hóng dēnglóng bùjǐn yòng yú jiǎndān de zhuāngshì. Tāmen
xiàngzhēngzhe huólì, shèhuì dìwèi, bìng bèi rènwéi kěyǐ xiāochú èyùn.
