1. Write the standard form of the equation for the parabola with the given
conditions: focus(-3,0) and Directrix: x=3.

2. Find the focus, vertex and directrix for each of the following parabolas.

(a) (y − 3)2 = 4(x + 2)

(b) (y − 2)2 = 4x
(c) y 2 + 6y = 10
(d) x2 + 2x = 6y

3. A parabola has equation y 2 = 8x

(a) Find the focus of the parabola.

(b) Show that the parabola passes through the point (1,2 2). Obtain
the equations of the tangent and the normal at this point.

4. Find the center, foci, vertices and eccentricities of each of the following
ellipses. Sketch each graph.

x2 y2
(a) + =1
16 9
(b) 64x2 + 25y 2 = 1600
(x − 3)2 (y + 2)2
(c) + =1
16 25
5. Find the center, foci and asymptotes for each of the following hyperbola.

x2 y2
(a) − =1
9 4
(b) 4x2 − y 2 + 24x + 4y + 28 = 0
