1. How has science and technology shaped the way we live today?
Nowadays, it’s not really hard to distinguish how science and technology
shaped our society. This is a proof of how science and technology, for so
many years, aided us into a more advance lifestyle that makes our lives easier
as we progress. As of now, both have been involved and affecting almost
every aspect of our lives. This is because we are so dependent to it even for a
simple household task like cooking up to worldwide activities like travelling.
Not only that but both science and technology also helped gain more
knowledge and understanding about certain things or topics to the point
where it changed some of our beliefs and values in life. This just shows how
involved science and technology is in our life.
2. What are some examples of current technologies that have significant social
implications?
There are tons of technologies that have been and continues to have
significant social implications. One of these are electronic communication
which change how we communicate with our friends and families. There is
also the internet, another example of modern technology, which aids
electronic communication as well as giving us access to most, if not all things,
online. Due to the pandemic and with the new normal, the use of the
technologies mentioned has been more frequent as we became reliant to
technology to fulfill our social needs. Such technologies are also very effective
to use in education, like online classes, corporal works and many more which
significantly affected how our society works.
3. How does society shape the direction of scientific research and technological
development?
As technology shaped our society, society also shaped the direction of
Scientific research and technological advancement. This is because these
three are related and co-dependent with each other. Scientific research and
technological advancement are conducted to utilize knowledge and answer
questions that makes our lives convenient. They also solve problems and
issues that our society faces. With this in mind, scientific research and
technological advancement are mostly for our society which is why society is
the one manipulating the direction where the two needs to follow.

4. How do ethical considerations play a role in the intersection of science, technology,
and society?
As we all know, ethics is a set of moral principle that defines what is morally
right or wrong. It examines moral justification in our practices and decisions.
Thus, ethical considerations guide science and technology and sets boundary
or limit to what is morally acceptable and what is not while still being able to
contribute to the society. It also makes sure that science and technology is
away from misconduct. Ethical consideration also ensures that results and
finding from both fields, science and technology, are reliable and reasonable.
5. Can you give an example of a scientific or technological development that has had a
positive and negative impact on society?
As mentioned in the first question, technology shaped the way we live today
making our lives a lot easier but despite this, negative impacts are inevitable.
One example is electronic communication which aids easier communication
but also enables so many cybercrimes such as hacking, phishing, spams,
cyberbullying and more. Another is machineries or tech equipment which are
efficient and cost effective but at the same time, causes an increase to
unemployment rate and affects traditional businesses. Adding more to these
are vehicles which obviously makes travelling easier but unfortunately
causes the rate of pollution to increase. Not just that but as technology makes
our lifestyle convenient, it also causes health and mental concerns for various
reasons.
