TPO 66, writing integrated task
The reading and the lecture are about the usefulness of airships and the problems associated with
them. In the listening passage, the professor is quick to point out that there are serious flaws in
the writer’s’ claims. He In fact, the professor discusses in detail limitations of the trouble with
each point made in the reading text. A brief account of these reviews is given below:
First and foremost, the author of in the reading passage supports the idea that airships are more
economical as their fuel consumption is less as compared to aircrafts and helicopters because
they need fuel for horizontal movement only and not for vertical movements. In response, the
professor stands in opposition to this claim. HIn fact, he highlights that airships utilize gases
such as hydrogen and helium, both of which have certain problems. Furthermore, he mentions
that hydrogen is a highly flammable gas and that it has had caused many fire incidents in the
past. Additionally, he goes on to explain that helium is a heavy gasgas, and it cannot provide
enough lifting power to the airship. In this way, the professor shows weakness of the reading
the first point about economic benefit of airships.
Secondly, the reading passage states that airships have an advantage the benefit over aircrafts
and airships of being able to operate in the forests. In response, the professor tells us that the use
of airships in the forests is no less than a challenge. He highlights that the while lifting loads in
an airship, such a tree logs, it the airship has to be kept steady, which is a very difficult
indifficult in windy conditions. Moreover, he mentions that a sudden gust of wind canmay cause
the airship to crash and cause serious damage. As a result, the professor shows weakness of the
second point made in the reading passage.
Finally, the reading passage claims that the airships may provide services like satellites as they
former can rise high above the surface and remain in that position without refueling. However,
this argument is challenged by the professor. HIn fact, he emphasizes that anthe airship can rise
as high as fourteen kilometer above the surface, which that is less than the height at which
satellites exists orbit. Consequently, airships would not be able to provide the services which
satellites canserve. Additionally, he goes on to explain that maintaining the height mentioned
above would cause the airship to consume a lot of fuel, which would make itstheir use expensive.
As a result, the professor shows limitation of the third point made in the reading text.
To sum up, both the of the reading text andtext and the professor hold conflicting viewpoints
about the use of airships.
