CISC 181(S21) Lab 6
Submission guidelines
The problems on this lab require a mix of solution types. Part 1 requires adding text at the bullet points.
Part 2 requires the insertion of some text from a website, stripped of its graphics elements, and some
observations from you about it. Save your completed document as Lab06_solutions.docx. Upload the file
to onQ by the lab's due date and time.
Part 1
In this lab I want you to do web searches to investigate issues with the storage of large amounts of data
online. Specifically, find four examples in the last four years of major data breaches in
user/customer/taxpayer data security at a large company or government agency involving at least 10
million records. For each data breach, give:
(4 × 1 marks) The name and home page address (URL) of the company or government agency. If
the company or agency no longer exists, as might happen, for example, if the company is no
longer in business, make a note of that instead of giving a URL.
(4 × 1 marks) The date on which the security breach was discovered OR made public.
(4 × 2 marks) A brief description of the breach and what data was, or may have been, stolen.
Include details like number of accounts affected, the type of data stolen and, if known, the way in
which the thieves gained access to the data.
(4 × 1 marks) Your web source(s) for the information (one or more URLs).
(That is 20 marks in total.) Make sure all URLs in your submission are active links for the benefit of
the TAs, please.
Type your solutions into the space below and on extra pages if needed.

Part 2
For the final part of the final lab in the course, I would like you to try out the Turing Test with
an award-winning online chatbot, [Link] The link to begin your chat is on the
site's home page. If the site pesters you to create an account, you may if you wish. I went with
the "Just chat" option.
(10 marks)
o Have a conversation of at least twenty lines (i.e. at least ten lines from you, with
at least ten replies from the chatbot), beginning with your opening statement to
the chatbot. Try to make the conversation interesting and non-repetitive.
o Copy your entire conversation with the chatbot from your computer's display. If
you cannot copy the text then you may need to take a screenshot and include it in
your document as an image.
Summarize your experience with the bot under the heading "Summary of the experience"
as follows:
o (2 marks) What percentage of the lines of output from the bot did you feel were
human-like?
o (3 marks) Give an example of a line of output from the bot that struck you as
distinctly not human and explain why you found it odd.
