Program Launch
In partnership with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)
The Virtual Internship Program was officially inaugurated by Honorable Minister of
Education, Shri. Dharmendra Pradhan on 22nd March 2022.
The objective of the program was to provide 20,000 students (pursuing their bachelors in
technology or engineering) with virtual internships to hone their skills, apply their knowledge
through practical application, and to become part of Salesforce community.

Ms. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairperson & CEO of Salesforce India, said, “According to the
International Data Corporation (IDC), Salesforce and its partner ecosystem could generate $66.4
billion in new business revenue between 2020 and 2026 and create 1.3 million direct and indirect
jobs in India. Also, By 2025, workers in India will need 9x digital skills, with the average worker
needing 7 new digital skills.”*

Speaking on the need for digital skills, she added, “Students are our future talent.
The launch of the Virtual Internship program aims to expand access Salesforce
learning platform - Trailhead and reach more students to prepare them for
job opportunities in the Salesforce ecosystem. On March 22, 2022, we embarked
on an aspirational partnership with AICTE and launched Virtual Internship
via SmartInternz platform to offer 20,000 learners an opportunity to get skilled,
apply their learnings and become part of the growing Salesforce ecosystem.”

Demand Driven Talent Pipeline
According to the latest NASSCOM Report, the gap between demand and supply of tech talent is
expected to grow to over 3.5 times its current size by 2026. To address this issue, demand-driven and
academia-integrated training programs can be implemented. One such program is the virtual internship
