BADARI RESIDENCE - CADENCE ARCHITECTS

Standing exceptionally in one of the urban locality of Bengaluru, this

residence is a certain to grab one’s attention with its experiential
design. The façade conveys a blend of fluidic and rigid form that crafts
a newness in the residential experience. The site is an urban plot
spanning across 2,400 sq ft with closely placed residential units.

The client requirement for this home was to have a balance of intimate spaces with
sense of privacy and the public spaces exuding zest and liveliness. The public spaces
needed to be cozy and congregational in nature that encouraged the conversations
among the family and friends. The personal spaces were to have a balance of privacy
and connection with the nature. The house has been structurally planned as a G+2
volume.

The building’s exterior and interiors was conceptualized as an assemblage of a series

of episodes that seek ‘delight’ through architectural effects. The façade with varying
forms and geometries come together to form a single unified form. The mass and void
that come alive with the curved wall gives the house a fluidic nature casted in a cubical
form. The earthy materials and colors of the façade are softened by the greens planted
along the first level balcony and the sunlight that hits the façade.

A storage space in the basement is accessed via a staircase provided beside the main
entrance. The ground floor has a formal living room with minimally dressed interiors.
An outdoor garden, a service area and housekeepers room fill the ground level giving
a spacious look and feel to the spaces above. On first level, one lands into the most
highlighted space of the house. It feels as an open plan format with spacious facilities
and free flow of air and natural light. The plan was organised around a double height
space that forms the soul of the house.

This space connects the living, dining, kitchen, prayer room and the exterior deck into
a cohesive whole. The space is further animated with an internal balcony and a bridge
overlooking it to establish connectivity with floor above. The fluidity in this space
enables individual requirements to overlap with each other providing a cozy interactive
space for the family. This space is rendered with an eclectic material palette, replete
with colour and texture that seeks warmth and delight.

A bedroom is placed beside the living room that subtly connects with the views of the
courtyard. The master bedroom is sculpted to create a figural void and is materially
draped in rough marble. This ephemeral marble screen, structurally hung from the
ceiling is bound by an earthy terracotta frame with a void.

A garden occupies this void. The green deck with its figural void negotiates the
connection between the interiors of the house and the street it overlooks. The slatted

window screen further adds a syncopated rhythm to this formal organisation.

The terrace sequestered from the busy street is an area where the family entertains and
unwinds. The home theatre room and the guest bedroom open into an open space with
a Jacuzzi and open deck. The slatted roof and the raised green wall provide the required
privacy to the space from the neighbours.

The material palette of the house is kept very earthy, elegant and minimal. White, brown,
and some pop of colors in the dining and furnishings in bedrooms, balance the look of
the spaces. This lets the architectural experience of the form overwhelm the users.
