STUDENTS/PUPILS POLICIES NUMBER 205
TRANSFER AND WITHDRAWAL OF STUDENTS
General:
It shall be the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian to notify the school principal, in writing,
of his/her desire to transfer the student to another school district or of his/her intention to
withdraw the student from school.
A student of compulsory school age may be withdrawn from school upon the request of the
parent or legal guardian. The parent or legal guardian of a student who has not attained the age of
eighteen (18) shall indicate the school to which the child is being transferred or the town to which
the family is moving if the family is moving out of county. Public school students who have
attained the age of sixteen (16) and who have not graduated are subject to compulsory school
attendance until the formal declaration of intent to withdraw is filed with student and parent or
legal guardian signatures and completed with a required interview as defined by the relevant
Florida Statutes.
The parent/guardian also has the responsibility for the return of textbooks and library books and
for the payment of any amount assessed for lost or damaged textbooks or library books. A
reasonable effort shall be made by the school principal or his designee to collect for damaged or
lost books. Upon withdrawal, all Board property, including, but not limited to: instructional
materials, electronic devices, digital devices, and other technology, must be returned to the school
from which the student withdraws.
The transfer of student educational records shall be made immediately upon request of the parent,
legal guardian, eligible student or receiving school. Under no conditions shall the transfer of a
student's record be delayed for failure to pay a fine or fee assessed by the school.
