Project Intervention Towards Affective Development (PITAD)

Emotional breakthroughs- 20 Volunteer LNU Education Volunteer conducted and


facilitated the Project Intervention Towards Affective Development (PITAD) in
partnership with the Silid Aralan Inc. and San Jose Central School. The said is relevant
and will help to emphasize that socio-emotional learning programs can promote
academic achievement and positive social behavior, reduce problems, substance abuse
and emotional distress, and it helps prevent future social and behavioral difficulties.
Moreover, it provides a basis for life-long learning.
Through the extensive help of the Department of Education Region VIII, they have
identified the San Jose Central School that greatly needs this program towards pupils’
affective development. This serves as the partner school to pilot this project in Region
VIII. The beneficiaries was 100 pupils from Grade Level 2 and compromised by boys
and girls.
This program was held at the Silid Aralan Hub and the pupils were able to participate in
many activities. The volunteer teachers provided a materials that will encourage pupils
to participate because the shyness of the pupils are still there and it was challenging for
the Teacher to teach the pupils.
Overall, the Teachers who conducted and facilitated were able to deliver an effective
strategy to teach these learners even though it was hard because the learners were so
hard to make them listen. They were a lot of misbehavior during the lesson but it is a
reminder for the teacher that this pupils needs help in terms of learning.
This project must be a reminder to the students to appreciate the value and importance
of education. Besides, the provision of quality education is not only the responsibility of
the school but also the responsibility of the entire community.

Breaking through barriers- The LNU Education Volunteer, consisting of 20 volunteers,


conducted and facilitated the Project Intervention Towards Affective Development
(PITAD) in collaboration with Silid Aralan Inc. and San Jose Central School. This
initiative aims to highlight the significance of socio-emotional learning programs in
promoting academic achievement, positive social behavior, and mitigating problems
such as substance abuse and emotional distress. It provides a foundation for life-long
learning.
The Department of Education Region VIII provided extensive support in identifying San
Jose Central School as the pilot partner school for the PITAD program in the region.
One hundred Grade Level 2 pupils, consisting of both boys and girls, benefited from the
project.
The Silid Aralan Hub was the venue for the program where the pupils engaged in
various activities facilitated by volunteer teachers. These activities were designed to
encourage participation, as the pupils were initially shy and challenging to teach.
Overall, despite facing difficulties in getting the pupils to listen, the volunteer teachers
were able to effectively deliver the program, which required innovative teaching
strategies. Although there were instances of misbehavior during the lessons, it was a
clear indication that the learners required assistance with their learning.
This project serves as a reminder to students of the value and importance of education.
It highlights that the responsibility of providing quality education extends beyond the
school and is a shared responsibility of the entire community.

Establishment of Community Mini-Library.


A trip through time- The Leyte Normal University – Bachelor of Library and Information
science (BLIS) Unit has established a Mini-Library in Barangay San Miguel, Sta.Fe,
Leyte. The project’s aims to create library consciousness among the people of the
community and to enrich and further develop the subjects of which individuals are
undertaking formal education to help people remain well-informed.

This project was implemented last October 9, 2018 where the LNU-BLIS visited Brgy.
San Miguel at Sta. Fe, Leyte and they had a meeting with the barangay officials of the
said barangay. Both parties were enthusiastic to start the project for the community
based on their shared ideas.
After 2 days of the meeting, the BLIS Unit of Leyte Normal University together with the
College Extension Coordinator, Prof. Paul Cipres delivered the cabinets to Brgy. San
Miguel, Sta. Fe, Leyte. This said activity was part of the “Mini-Library Project” of the
BLIS Program.
On December 13, 2018, the painting of the Mini-Library to enhance the ambiance and
the place has started and in this said activity, everyone showed their eagerness to finish
the session within the day. Resulting to this, the cabinets and the mini-library were
beautifully painted with the sky blue color.
The donation book took place on January 19, 2019 where the BLIS Faculty together
with the College Extensions Coordinator and the fourth year BLIS Students of Leyte
Normal Univeristy conducted the Extension Program by donating the library books and
other resources such as computer, textbooks, record books, pencils, ballpens, and
brochuers and flyers from different Government Agencies. The donations were received
by the Barangay Secretary and their community expressed gratitude regarding the
project.
There are also Film Showing of Education Videos to the children as part of LNU-BLIS
“Mini-Library Project”. This would benefit the children because films that address topics
that children study in school are just as effective as other teaching materials. They see
the world from another perspective and provide teachers with a new tool to enrich their
lessons. Integrating and using films in the classroom stimulate young children's
imagination and artistic awareness.

was implemented after the LNU-BLIS team visited Barangay San Miguel and had a
meeting with the barangay officials, where they shared ideas and expressed
enthusiasm for the project.
After the meeting, the BLIS Unit, along with the College Extension Coordinator,
delivered cabinets to Barangay San Miguel, and the painting of the Mini-Library
commenced on December 13, 2018. Everyone showed their eagerness to complete the
task within the day, resulting in beautifully painted cabinets and a welcoming Mini-
Library environment.
On January 19, 2019, the BLIS Faculty, College Extension Coordinator, and fourth-year
BLIS students of Leyte Normal University conducted an Extension Program by donating
library books, computers, textbooks, record books, pencils, ball pens, and brochures
and flyers from different government agencies to the community. The donations were
well-received by the Barangay Secretary, and the community expressed gratitude for
the Mini-Library Project.
To further enhance the project's impact, the LNU-BLIS team also included the showing
of educational videos to the children in Barangay San Miguel. This initiative benefits the
children by providing a new perspective on the topics they study in school and
stimulating their imagination and artistic awareness. The integration and use of films in
the classroom have been proven to be effective teaching tools, enriching the lessons
and inspiring young children's creativity.
Overall, the Mini-Library Project is an excellent example of how education and
community engagement can go hand in hand. It promotes lifelong learning, creates a
sense of community ownership, and empowers individuals to make informed decisions.
