Credit: MR c5: Regional Materials
INTENT To increase demand for building material and products that are extracted and
manufactured within the local region. Use building materials or product that are extracted,
harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured within 500 miles (800km) from the
construction site.

EVALUATION Estimate the percentage of local materials, considering a range of 500 miles (800km) and the
METHOD
distance of both the raw material and the final product weighted means of transport: railway, inland
waterway, maritime and others.

INTENT To encourage environmental responsible forest management.

EVALUATION Use a minimum of 50% (based on cost) of wood-based materials and products that are certified in
METHOD
accordance with e Forest Stewardship Council’s principles and criteria, for wood building
components. These components include at a minimum, structural framing and general dimensional
framing, flooring, sob-flooring, wood doors and finishes.

Include only materials permanently installed in the project. Wood products purchased for
temporary use on the project (e.g. formwork, bracing, scaffolding, sidewalk protection, and guard
rails) may be included in the calculation at the project team’s discretion. If any such materials are
included, all such materials must be included in the calculations. In such materials are purchased for
use on multiple projects, the applicant may be included if it is included consistently in MR c3:
Material Reuse, through MR c7: Certified Wood (MR c 6 for Core & Shell projects).

Products identified as FSC Pure, FSC Mixed and FSC Mixed (NN)% are included. Are not taken into
account in calculating the products identified as FSC Recycled.
