Dear Student,
I am glad to inform you that you have been selected to participate in the Initiation into Mathematics (Initmath)
programme organized under the aegis of MTTS Trust. The programme will be held at the Jammu & Kashmir
Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Campus Amar Singh College, Gogjibagh, Srinagar. The programme starts at
8:00 AM on July 10, 2023 and ends at 5.00 PM on July 18, 2023.
To participate in the programme, you must confirm your participation by sending an email to the local coordi-
nator Dr. N. A. Lone (nisarsultan@[Link]) latest by June 27, 2023. In case of any difficulty, you may also call
him on 9906721888. Please mention your name and serial number and your complete address in the confirmation
email. Please write ’confirmation for InitMath-2023-JK’ as the subject in your email. In case you do not confirm your
participation during this period, your selection will stand canceled automatically and no further communication
will be entertained.
After receiving your confirmation of participation, the local coordinator will send you a letter (by email) giving
you the information such as how to reach the the venue, accommodation etc.
I would like to bring it to your attention that you may have to take care of clashes if any with your lectures,
university or any other exams with the schedule of the programme. You need to join the programme on the first
day itself and attend the the full programme actively. You will NOT be granted any leave during the programme.
The Programme will be very intensive, requiring you to spend about seven hours of study of mathematics every
day in the class room and a couple of hours of study at your home. Please be prepared to work hard and compete
with other participants. While competition is good for one’s improvement, you may also bear in mind that your
primary aim should be to learn mathematics. The teachers will be accessible and ready to help you in your difficul-
ties. The class room presentation will not be in the usual lecture style but will require an active participation from
you. Do not bother about the topics to be covered and textbooks. The most important purpose of this programme
is to train you to think rather than to introduce you to a lot of jargon.

Please bring the following documents along with you at the time of registration:
1. A certificate from your institute/college about your present course of study with your photograph affixed and
attested by your institute/college authority.
2. The undertaking form (attached with this email) signed by you and your guardian. Do NOT send the under-
taking form to the local coordinator. Keep it with you and bring it to the camp at the time of registration.
3. The letter from the local coordinator confirming your participation.
Please note that (i) if you do not bring any of the above documents, you will not be allowed to participate in
the programme and (ii) you will not be granted any leave during the programme.
