Lecturer: Mr. Vinod A/L Ramanathan
1. Explain all the disciplines affecting in HCI interface briefly.
I. Cognitive Psychology → This is one of the main contributors to HCI since it helps to
understand how people process information and make decisions, which could guide the
design of interfaces that present information in a way that is clear and simple to use. This
is where cognitive psychology comes into play since how people interact with technology
is influenced by their internal thought processes. According to cognitive psychology,
humans see and solve issues similarly to computers.
II. Anthropology → Studying the variety of human cultural practises and beliefs through
participant observation and comparison is called anthropology.
III. Engineering → Engineering applies scientific discoveries to the creation of artefacts.
IV. Ergonomics → Designing tools with users' capacities in mind is known as ergonomics. To
define and create tools and varied artefacts for various work, leisure, and household
environments in accordance with users' capacities and capabilities• An ergonomist
integrates the information from the aforementioned sciences into the context of a
product's design.
V. Information Theory → We could state that human-computer interaction can be viewed
as a communication process and can therefore be described using information-theoretic
principles, information theory and HCI are combined.
VI. Information Technology → Information technology is one of the key that supports HCI.
The technical know-how and abilities required to design and build software and hardware
for computer systems utilized in HCI are provided by IT. Additionally, it offers the data
structures and techniques employed in processing and analysing user data.
VII. Education → Designing user-friendly interfaces that people with various skills and levels
of expertise may easily use requires HCI. Most importantly, groups lacking formal training
and knowledge on interfacing with certain computing systems might benefit from human-
computer interaction.
VIII. Sociology → This is another key of discipline that contributes to HCI. Sociology offers
insight into how people interact with technology in a social context. Understanding social
norms and conventions can help to design interfaces that are culturally appropriate and
take into account the social context in which the technology will be used.
