Engine Installation Guidelines for Boats

The document provides instructions for drilling pilot and installation holes in a boat transom for mounting an outboard engine. It states to drill two 6.5mm pilot holes at 60 degrees from the transom and then use a 45mm hole saw with a 6.5mm pilot. It references installation drawings for minimum center distance requirements for dual installations. It includes a diagram showing measurement of the "X" dimension along the slant of the transom at various angles from 11 to 16 degrees from horizontal, providing the measurement in both metric and imperial units.

Caution

The following instructions will provide a sterndrive unit

mounting locations that are suitable for most boats. The best
2X

mounting location for a particular boat however, can only be

determined by testing.

The recommended "X" dimensions can be raised for

performance installations. If a higher "X" dimension is
chosen, there is a risk of ventalating propellers. The use of
stainless steel propellers may be required.

All installations within a boat manufacturer's line are subject

to verification by actual tests per A.B.Y.C (American Boat
and Yacht Council) and N.M.M.A. (National Marine
62,7 [ 2 167 “ ] Manufacturers Association) standards (USA). Additional
standards may also apply for boats exported from the U.S.
Check with the standards agency of the importing country.
