Group Assignment 1

The document provides a resource schedule for constructing a 12.5km B-class rural road project divided into 5 sections over 13 weeks. It divides work into subbase, base, and binder/wearing teams. Each team is assigned machinery, equipment, and human resources to complete their assigned work for each 2.5km section within 13 days. The schedule then allocates teams to sections over 7 time periods to complete the entire project within the allotted time.

Group Discussion Topic

Consider a B-class road development project planned to conduct in a rural area in Sri Lanka. The
project would be approximately 12.5km long and need to be completed within 90 days from
commencement. An additional one month would be granted for mobilization and demobilization.
A project manager is planning to divide the given road into 5 sections of 2.5 km and use 05
separate groups for the work.
 Develop the resource schedule for the project excluding material quantities.

B Class Road Construction Method

 Sub-grade
 Sub-base
 Base
 Pavement
 Rolling

Work Description The Volume of the Work

(m3)

1. Preparing Subgrade and Subbase 0.3x15x2500 = 11250

2. Preparing the Base 0.15x10x2500 = 3750

3. Applying Pavement and Rolling 0.125x8x2500 = 2500

The Methodology.

Therefore, it is easy to divide each work scope into 03 main teams,

1. Team A - Subbase Team
2. Team B – Base Team
3. Team C - Binder Team

13 days will be required to accomplish each activity individually.

Resource Allocation

1. Resource Allocation for Subbase

Sub-base of 11250 m3 of each 2.5 km is to be done in respective 13 days of work.
Therefore,
Subbase Work per day = 11250 m3/13 days = 865.9 m3 ~ 866 m3
If we assume that the total labor hours per day is 8 hours
Sub-base work per hour = 866 m3/8 hours = 108.25 m3

2. Resource Allocation for Base

A base of 3750 m3 of each 2.5 km is to be done in respective 13 days of work.
Therefore,
Base Work per day = 3750 m3/13 days = 288.4 m3 ~ 289 m3
If we assume that the total labor hours per day is 8 hours (excluding lunch and tea breaks)
Base work per hour = 289 m3/8 hours ~ 36.1 m3

3. Resource Allocation for Binder and wearing.

A binder of 2500m3 of each 2.5 km is to be done in the respective 13 days of work.
Therefore,
Binder Work per day = 2500 m3/13 days = 192.3 m3 ~ 193 m3
If we assume that the total labor hours per day is 8 hours (excluding lunch and tea breaks)
Binder work per hour = 193 m3/8 hours ~ 24.1 m3
