SPECIFICATION FOR SANITARY WORKS

I. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Scope of Works
1. Furnishing of materials, labor, equipment, tools and accessories for the installation and testing
of the completed plumbing system ready for use by the owners as listed herein but not
limited to the following:

a. Tapping from existing waterline.


b. Hot and cold water supply and distribution system with central filtration system and solar
water heater.

c. Rainwater collection and distribution system.


d. Storm drainage and disposal system, downspouts, including roof drains, area drain, catch
basins and drainage junction boxes.
e. Building sanitary roughing-ins of waste and venting systems, including floor drains.
f. Installation of plumbing fixtures, fittings, trims, and accessories.
g. Testing for leakage of all water supply and distribution system.
h. Securing of all permits and payment of necessary fees as required.
i. Preparation and submittal of As-Built plans.

B. Quality of Works
1. Shall be in accordance with the best practice of the trade; work shall conform in all aspects to
the National Plumbing Code of the Philippines and to the local ordinances.
C. Approval of Materials
1. Within 30 days Award of Contract, the contractor shall submit for the approval of the Architect
and the Engineers, the names of suppliers of materials be proposed to use, including
trade names and/ or samples of the materials if deemed necessary.

D. Warranty
1. All works shall be guaranteed by the Contractor for a satisfactory service for a minimum of
one (1) year.

E. As-Built Plans
1. The contractor shall submit to the owner, in reproducible form plus three (3) whiteprint copies,
the complete plans of the entire systems actually built. The cost of these shall borne by
the contractor.

II. MATERIALS SCHEDULE

A. Pipes and Fittings


1. Hot and Cold Water Line – use Vesbo PP-R pipes and fittings, installed using heat-fusion
system
2. Downspouts – use polyvinyl chloride pipe (PVC) series 1000 conforming to ASTM D-2729
3. Storm drainage – inside the building use polyvinyl chloride pipe (PVC) series 100 conforming
to ASTM D-2729 for pipe 4”0 and smaller and class 35 conforming to PMS-ISAO
(ISO/DIS 3633) for pipe 6”0 and larger.
4. Soil waste and vent pipe – use same as No. 3.
5. Outside storm drainage – use concrete pipe.

B. Valves
1. Bronze, ASTM B-62, 1035 Kpa for 50mm and smaller; all iron bronze fitted, 1035 Kpa for
65mm and bigger, for all shut off valve use non-rising stem gate valve for 50mm and
smaller, lever handle butterfly valve for 65mm and bigger.

C. Other Materials
1. Drains, “METMA” Model No. as indicated at approved equal.
a. Floor/Shower…….. Model M-200F
2. Hose Bibb: 3/4” standard hose connection, male tapered threads, polished chromium plated.

3. Outdoor Pipe lines, Appurtenances:


a. Gate Valve Chamber …. 140 kg/sq.cm. (200 psi) reinforced concrete with precast

b. Thrust Blocks …….. 140 kg/sq. cm. (200 psi) plain concrete
c. Sewer Junction Box …. 140 kg/sq. cm. (200 psi) precast R.C. cover

d. Area Drain Catch …… 140 kg/sq. cm. (200 psi) R.C. with G. I. cutting cover.

D. Jointing
1. Flanged joint gasket: “Garlock” or equal.
2. Screwed joints: I.S. Federal specifications GS-0-251.
3. PP-R Pipes and Fittings: heat-fusionsystem.
4. Pipe sleeves shall be cast-iron, wrought iron or steel pipes.
5. Concrete Drain Pipe: Cement materials

E. Substation and Testing of Materials


1. Materials intended to be substituted for these originally specified shall be accepted only after
a formal request for substitution, accompanied by:
a. Reasons for substitution
b. Certificate of test indication quality compared to those originally specified
c. Cost comparison with material originally specified.
Request shall be submitted to the Architect for evaluation at least 15 working days before
installation of subject material is due or at least 7 days before opening of bids.

2. Cost of testing of materials, whether on originally specified item or on substitution, whom


required, shall be to the accounts of the Contractor.
Results of the test shall be submitted to the Architect for evaluation at least fifteen (15) days
before the material is due for installation on the job.

III. WATER SUPPLY FITTINGS AND CONNECTION

A. Installation
1. The piping shall be extended to all fixtures, outlets and equipment. The hot and cold water
shall be installed with a fall-toward a main shut-off valve and drains. Ends of pipes and
outlets shall be capped or plugged and left ready for future connections.
2. The branch water piping to the fixtures shall not be less than the following sizes:

COLD WATER
Water closet, flushometer type 13 mm
Water closet, tank type 13 mm
Urinal, flushometer type 25 mm
Slop sink 13 mm
Lavatories 13 mm
Shower 13 mm
Kitchen Sink 13 mm

3. Where the branch serves more than one fixture, the branch shall be increased in size in
proportion to the sizes as shown on the drawing.
4. Other fixtures not definitely mentioned in (b) above, are to have the same pipe connection and
valves as specified for a similar fixture.
5. Cast bronze unions shall be installed at the connection to all equipment so that they may be
conveniently disassembled.
6. Upon completion of water system, flush out lines to clear system and all valve seats of
particles and dirt.
7. Air Chambers: All individual branches to fixtures and/or equipment shall be provided with air
chamber shock absorbers as shown on the drawing (300 mm long for a 13 mm Ø vertical
450 mm long for a 19 mm Ø vertical).

IV. TESTS

A. Drainage System Test


1. The entire sanitary drainage and venting system shall have all necessary opening which can
be plugged to permit the entire system to be filled with water to the level of the highest
stack vent above the roof.
2. The system shall hold this water for a full thirty (30) minutes during which time there shall be
no drop, more than four (4) inches.
3. If and when the Architect decides that additional test is needed, such as an air or smoke test
on the drainage system, the contractor shall perform such test without additional cost.

B. Water System Test


1. Upon completion of the roughing-in and before setting fixtures the entire water piping system
shall be tested at a hydrostatic pressure in the half times the expected working pressure
in the system when in operation, and proved tight at this pressure.

C. Defective Work
1. If inspection or test shows any defect such defective work of material shall be replaced and
the inspection and test repeated until satisfactorily to the Architect.
2. All repairs to piping shall be made with new materials at the expense of the contractor.
3. No caulking of screwed joints or holes will be accepted.
