IMMACULATE CONCEPTION ACADEMY

JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT
COURSE SYLLABUS IN SCIENCE 10
S.Y. 2022-2023

Prepared by:

I. LEVEL STANDARDS FOR K to 12 GRADE 10

II. SCIENCE:

PROGRAM STANDARD The learners should demonstrate an understanding of science concepts and apply science inquiry skills in addressing real-world problems
through scientific investigations.
GRADE LEVEL STANDARD The learners realize that volcanoes and earthquakes occur in the same places in the world and that these are related to plate boundaries. They can
demonstrate ways to ensure safety and reduce damage during earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions. Learners can explain the factors affecting the
balance and stability of an object to help them practice appropriate positions and movements to achieve efficiency and safety such as in sports and dancing.
They can analyze situations in which energy is harnessed for human use whereby heat is released, affecting the physical and biological components of the
environment. Learners will have completed the study of the entire organism with their deeper study of the excretory and reproductive systems. They can
explain in greater detail how genetic information is passed from parents to offspring, and how diversity of species increases the probability of adaptation and
survival in changing environments. Learners can explain the importance of controlling the conditions under which a chemical reaction occurs. They recognize
that cells and tissues of the human body are made up of water, a few kinds of ions, and biomolecules. These biomolecules may also be found in the food
they eat.

CONTENT STANDARD
First Quarter The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts on the effects of tectonic processes on the planet and on the lives of living organisms.
Second Quarter The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts on the characteristics of waves, the components of electromagnetic spectrum, the
effects of electromagnetic radiation on living things on Earth, the reflection or refraction of light waves, the concepts of electricity and magnetism,
and the generation of electricity
Third Quarter The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of how life cycles evolve through the coordinated functions of the nervous, endocrine,
and reproductive systems, the complex processes of DNA replication and protein synthesis, the evolutionary development of species, and the
relationship of biodiversity to the stability of the ecosystem
Fourth Quarter The learner demonstrates understanding of the behavior of gas particles as described by the Kinetic Molecular Theory and the gas laws,
recognize the importance of biomolecules present in the food you eat, as well as the nutritional elements mixed in them, and relate the
conservation of mass with chemical reactions

PERFORMANCE STANDARD

First Quarter The learner is able to design a plan for some tectonic activity on how to prepare more during this activity
Second Quarter The learner is able to create another optical instrument that we use in our daily living.
Third Quarter The learner is able to discover the function of nervous, endocrine, and reproductive system in our human body and make a representation of
DNA to understand the relationship of it to the biodiversity of the ecosystem
Fourth Quarter The learner is able to solve different problems related to gas laws and conservation of mass with chemical reactions.

III. INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES:

o Realize that volcanoes and earthquakes occur in the same places in the world.
K to 12 SCIENCE 10 Page 3 of 14

o Demonstrate ways to ensure safety and reduce damage during earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.
o Explain how light affects one’s vision of objects.
o Gain a deeper understanding of the entire organism through an in-depth study of the relationship of the reproductive, endocrine, and nervous system.
o Explain in greater detail how genetic information is passed from parents to offspring.
o Explain the importance of controlling the conditions under which a chemical reaction occurs.
o Recognize that cells and tissues of the human body are made up of water, a few ions, and biomolecules which may be found in the food they eat.
