GAS LIFT Wireline Retreivable Equipment
TECHNICAL UNIT

BDY-1C™ Dummy Valve

Product Family No. H86010

Description
The BDY-1C™ Wireline Retrievable Dummy
Valve is a 1 inch OD valve that is used as a non-
equalizing isolation tool designed to be installed in
side pocket mandrels. To fully protect the seal
bores of the pocket in the side pocket mandrel from
produced fluids and gas, the length between the
packing stacks is maximized.
The BDY-1C Dummy valve consists of a run-
ning head, body and an integral bottom collet latch.
The valve is available in either stainless steel or
nickel alloys for corrosion resistance in wells with
high concentrations of H2S and/or CO2. Packing
for the valve is available for standard service, cor-
rosive service, or special service to suit individual
well conditions.
The simple design of the dummy valve allows
for easy replacement of the packing and for rapid
low-cost repair of components. The rugged, solid
construction and quality materials provide for a
long service life.

Features/Benefits
• Stainless steel or premium materials available
• Integral bottom collet latch
• Temperature rating of 250°F (standard service)
• Maximized packing separation for complete
seal bore protection in the mandrel pocket
• Standard Neoprene packing with other
materials available
• Compatible with other industry standard side
pocket mandrels

Valve Application and Operation Operation
Drawing No. 999-665_231 The BDY-1C can be installed into a side pocket
mandrel on the surface before running the tubing
string into the well or by using standard wireline
tools and methods if the tubing string has already
been installed in the well.
When the valve has been installed in the man-
drel pocket, the tubing and casing annulus are iso-
lated by the dummy's two sets of packing located
above and below the mandrel side ports.
In operation, the BDY-1C Dummy is used to
blank off a side pocket mandrel to allow for produc-
tion prior to the installation of gas lift valves, to
blank off the side pocket prior to pressurizing the
tubing to set a hydraulic set packer, to isolate the
tubing flow from casing annulus for test purposes
or to isolate tubing from casing annulus during re-
medial work such as acidizing or fracturing.
The BDY-1C Dummy is used when the operator
can equalize the casing annulus pressure and tub-
ing pressure at valve depth before pulling the dum-
my from the mandrel pocket utilizing standard
wireline methods. If differential pressure between
the casing annulus and tubing cannot be equal-
ized, a equalizing dummy should be installed in
place of one non-equalizing dummy valve.
