Validity and Reliability

The researchers validated the instrument used in the study through Cronbach's alpha and face validity methods. Cronbach's alpha yielded an inter-item reliability of 0.725, indicating the instrument is highly valid. Through face validity, three expert validators rated the instrument's subscales and items. Their ratings showed very high validity, with average scores ranging from 4.5 to 5. The validators agreed the instrument has very high face validity, as evidenced by their consistent ratings and a high Brownman ρ value of 0.687.

To attest the reliability of the instrument used in this study, the

researchers made use Cronbach’s alpha validation procedure with the aid of

a Statistics teacher. Twenty (20) students who were not part of the sample

answered the questionnaire and the result was statistically treated. The

validation result showed that the 60-item Likert’s Agreement scale

instrument with 10 factor loadings has an inter-item reliability ( ρ ) of 0.725

which indicates that the instrument is highly valid. The validation procedure

also indicated that items 32, 47 and 51 should be rephrased so as to

increase the validity of the instrument.

To further determine the validity of the instrument, the researcher

sought the help of three (3) teachers who are expert and language and

research: the first validator is a secondary mathematics teacher and a

certified statistician, the second is a veteran secondary English teacher and

the third is a school guidance designate. The researcher adopted Ariola’s

(2014) face validation method wherein each validator determined the validity

of each item using a scale: 5 is Very Highly Valid (VHV), 4 is High valid (HV),

3 is Somewhat Valid (SV), 2 indicates that the item Needs to be Improved

(NI) and 1 is Invalid (INV). The validators agreed that the instrument is

highly valid as shown in the validation table below:

Subscale Validators’ Score (Total) Total Description

1 4.33 4.50 4.83 4.55 VHV
2 4.17 4.67 5.00 4.61 VHV
3 4.50 4.83 4.83 4.71 VHV
4 4.33 4.67 4.83 4.61 VHV
5 4.67 4.83 4.67 4.72 VHV
6 4.33 4.67 4.50 4.50 VHV
7 4.67 4.83 4.67 4.72 VHV
8 4.83 5.00 4.50 4.78 VHV
9 5.00 5.00 5.00 5.00 VHV
10 4.67 4.83 4.5 4.67 VHV

The agreement of the validators is significantly equal (s.d. = 0.184)

and has a Brownman ρ of 0.687 which indicates high consistency. Hence,

the instrument has a very highly valid face validity.
