Tilapia
One of the most valuable fisheries and aquaculture products is tilapia. Despite the ease
with which tilapia can be reproduced and cultured, the Philippine tilapia sector could use a boost
to both the quality and number of its outputs. The tilapia business may be able to succeed in its
goals if farmers adopt some of the novel breeding and farming techniques developed over years
of local research and development effort. PCAARRD has compiled the most up-to-date,
comprehensive resource on effective tilapia breeding and farming practices with the support of a
technical team of experts. It is intended that those involved in the tilapia farming sector in the
Philippines, including technicians, students, managers/operators, and aquaculturists, can gain
valuable insight from this publication, implement the suggested practices, and help the industry
grow even more, (The Philippines recommends Tilapia, 2018).
Consequently, as written by
According to (Yue, et. al., 2016), While fish is a great source of animal nutrition for
humans, overfishing is increasingly depleting wild fish stocks. Thus, sustainable aquaculture will
be crucial to ensuring the continued availability of fish in the future, as it has the potential to
increase rather than decrease global supplies of edible protein. Because of their specific traits,
tilapia is ideal for long-term, environmentally friendly aquaculture. Cage and offshore
aquaculture, as well as land-based recirculating aquaculture, will mitigate the ecological and
biodiversity costs of tilapia farming. Using cutting-edge molecular approaches will hasten the
process of further genetic development of tilapias.
Fish Scaler
Descaling, commonly known as the removal of fish scales, is one of the most essential
unit operations in the pre-processing of fish. In most cases, fish scales are removed manually.
This is not only a time-consuming process, but it also commonly results in injuries and wounds
to the hands of those executing it. Designing a fish scaler will facilitate the reduction of human
labor and the hygienic handling of fish. Existing fish descaling procedures, types of fish scales,
the morphology of different types of fish scales, commercially available fish de-scalers, available
patents, etc. were reviewed. All publications reporting such investigations were collected from
sources that underwent peer review, (International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies,
2019).
In the Philippines, fish descaling is regarded as one of the common and most critical
operations in the pre-processing of fish. Descaled fish are usually cut into pieces that are suitable
for cooking. This process is traditionally carried by swiping the dull side of a knife, spoon, or
spoon fork or wood with spike nails against the fish in the opposite direction of the extending
scales. This procedure, on the other hand, is difficult, time consuming, and very messy because
the removed scales snap off in a variety of ways of instructions. The tool must be moved over the
same area of the fish several times to ensure that all scales are removed. As a result, there is a
tendency to destroy the fish's skin and also cause harm and wounds to the person’s hand that is
involved. In this study, the machine will be designed with the idea and combination of detecting
the quality, descaling, and cleaning the fish in mind. Moreover, the design of a fish descaler is
the best way to reduce human work while also ensuring hygienic handling of fish (Ashwinkumar
et al., 2021).
