Narrative Report: Issues Faced and actions Done by Panilao Elementary

School's Parent-Teachers Association S.Y. 2022-2023

Introduction:

The Panilao Elementary School's Parent-Teachers Association (SSSPTA) has been

an essential and active component of the school community, working tirelessly to promote
collaboration between parents, teachers, and administrators. However, like any organization,
the SSPTA has faced various challenges and issues that have impacted its operations and
effectiveness. This narrative report aims to outline the significant issues faced by the Panilao
Elementary School's SSPTA and provide insights into the strategies implemented to address
them.

1. Lack of Parent Engagement:

One of the prominent issues faced by the SSPTA is the lack of parent engagement.
Many parents have been unable to actively participate in SSPTA meetings, events, and
initiatives due to conflicting work schedules or other commitments. This lack of engagement
hinders the SSPTA's ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with parents,
ultimately impacting their involvement in their children's education.

To address this issue, the SSPTA has taken several steps. First, they have
diversified their communication channels, utilizing not only traditional methods such as
physical notices but also leveraging technology, such as emails, social media platforms, and
online forums. This approach allows parents to stay informed and participate remotely,
overcoming the barrier of physical presence.

Additionally, the SSPTA has organized weekend meetings and events to

accommodate parents with busy work schedules. They have also established a volunteer
system where parents can contribute their time and skills based on their availability, ensuring
that everyone can contribute to the school community in some way.

2. Limited Funding and Resources:

Another significant issue faced by the SSPTA is limited funding and resources. The
SSPTA plays a crucial role in supporting various school initiatives, including extracurricular
activities, infrastructure development, and educational programs. However, due to financial
constraints, the SSPTA often struggles to meet these needs effectively.

To overcome this challenge, the SSPTA has adopted a multi-faceted approach. They
actively seek external funding through partnerships with local businesses, community
organizations, and government agencies. These partnerships have enabled the SSPTA to
secure grants, sponsorships, and donations to support their initiatives and bridge the
resource gap.

Furthermore, the SSPTA has implemented cost-saving measures, such as

organizing fundraising events and encouraging parents to donate supplies and materials. By
involving the entire school community in these efforts, the SSPTA has been able to
maximize their available resources and ensure that essential programs and activities are not
compromised due to financial limitations.

3. Limited Awareness and Participation in SSPTA Elections:

The SSPTA elections have experienced limited awareness and participation from
parents, resulting in reduced representation and potential missed opportunities for effective
decision-making. Some parents may not fully understand the significance of SSPTA
elections or the impact they can have on their children's education.

To address this issue, the SSPTA has implemented a comprehensive awareness

campaign leading up to the elections. They conduct information sessions, distribute
informational brochures, and actively communicate with parents about the importance of
participation and the benefits of having diverse voices and perspectives in the SSPTA.

The SSPTA has also worked closely with school administrators and teachers to
encourage their support and involvement in promoting the elections. By highlighting the role
of the SSPTA in shaping the school's direction and fostering a sense of ownership among
parents, the SSPTA has successfully increased awareness and participation in the elections.

4. Lack of Communication and Cooperation:

Another critical issue faced by the Panilao Elementary School's SPTA is a lack of
effective communication and cooperation between the association, parents, teachers, and
school administrators. Insufficient communication channels and breakdowns in collaboration
can hinder the SPTA's ability to address concerns, gather feedback, and implement
initiatives that benefit the school community.

To address this issue, the SPTA has taken steps to improve communication and
foster cooperation among stakeholders. They have established regular communication
channels, such as newsletters, email updates, and social media groups, to keep parents
informed about SPTA activities, upcoming events, and opportunities for involvement.

Moreover, the SPTA has organized regular meetings with teachers and school
administrators to discuss issues, share feedback, and align their efforts towards common
goals. These meetings provide a platform for open dialogue and collaboration, enabling the
SPTA to understand the needs and concerns of teachers and administrators while also
conveying the perspectives and suggestions of parents.

In addition to formal meetings, the SPTA has initiated informal gatherings, such as
coffee mornings or parent-teacher social events, to facilitate relationship-building and
encourage open communication. These events create a more relaxed atmosphere where
parents, teachers, and administrators can interact, exchange ideas, and build trust,
ultimately fostering a cooperative spirit within the school community.

Conclusion:

The Panilao Elementary School's Parent-Teachers Association has faced various

challenges that have affected its functioning and ability to effectively engage parents,
allocate resources, and promote participation in elections. However, through proactive
strategies and collaboration, the SSPTA has made significant strides in addressing these
issues.
