2. Input received from Engine ECU in Stop-Start mode (micro-hybrid mode)

The MBFM inhibits that starter relay and the engine will not crank under the following
conditions -

a. The engine not crank, if the engine speed is above a set speed. This is to avoid the
starter operation when the engine is already running,
b. The engine will not crank if either the gear is not in Neutral position or the clutch
pedal is not fully pressed.
c. The starter will cut off if it is engaged for more than10 seconds continuously.
d. Under attempted theft situation – Locking with remote and opening with key and
attempting to crank.

Accessory Relay control

The MBFM controls the accessory relay under engine cranking conditions. When the
engine is cranked either by Ignition switch or by Engine ECU (micro-hybrid) , the MBFM
will inhibit the accessory relay to reduce all external loads to aid in healthy cranking

10. Tyre Pressure Monitoring System

The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is controlled by the MBFM. The MBFM
receives information on tyre pressure & temperature from the sensors and communicates
it to the instrument cluster display through LIN.

Sensors (5 nos) transmit pressure and temperature information when vehicle speed
reaches approximately 40 Kms/hr, every 1 minute. However, if there is change in the
temperature/pressure above a predetermined level, the information will be
communicated to the receiver even if the vehicle is stationary.

Description

MBFM controls the Starter Relay under two situations:

If it gets a signal from the ignition switch or if it gets the signal from Engine ECU in the Start stop
functionality (if the Start Stop is enabled)

The MBFM inhibits that starter relay if the following conditions are present:

e. The MBFM Anti theft is in armed state

f. The engine speed is above a set speed, indicating that the engine is already running. This
is to avoid the starter operation when the engine is already running,
g. The Gear Neutral switch detects that the gear is not in neutral (gear engaged detected) &
the clutch pedal is not pressed up to 90%.
h. The starter is engaged for > 10 seconds
i. If the MBFM switches off the starter relay due to point d. Then a minimum time of 5 sec has
to pass before it will energize next attempt.

Battery Voltage

Code Label
B 1068 Power ( Battery) under voltage (< 8 volts)
B 1069 Power ( Battery) over voltage ( > 16 Volts)

The battery voltage is monitored by the MBFM

The correct operating range is 9 V to 16 V.

Below 9 Volts the System is in under voltage state. Below 8 V the system will stop all the
outputs. If the system notices below 8 V and when the vehicle reports at workshop that
time it is OK then please check for the cause of low voltage ( excess current being drawn-
dark current, short which got compensated by charging system)

Above 16 V is over voltage. At this voltage also the MBFM will stop functioning.
This information is also useful to find out the root cause of any ECU or electronic failure.
For this also the charging system and the complete wiring should be investigated to
prevent recurrence.
