Drugs had been considered as one of the grassroots of major social problems.
To show support to government’s war on drugs and criminally, the Department od
education has also its fair share with its National Drug Education Program (NDEP). For
this school year 2022-2023. Victory Village Elementary School organized a Symposium
on Drug Awareness to Grade 4 to Grade 6 pupils respectively last February 23, 2023
held at Victory Village Multi-Purpose Hall
The activity started with an opening program where upon the welcome address
was given by the school principal. PSSg Marivic Gruta, and PSSg Nora Forlanda ,
Resource Speakers from Philippine National Police, Legazpi City Station were invited
to share their insights and expertise. PSSg Marivic Gruta presented the legal drugs and
youth engagement to it. She also highlighted that there is fine for any individual caught
using and selling drugs. They pointed out the present situation in the Bicol Region that
all detention facilities are crowded and 80%-90% of the detainies are involved with
dangerous drugs.
PSSg Nora Forlanda, the second speaker enlightened the audience with effects
of drug addiction to one’s health pointing that not only through drugs would one destroy
oneself but also through addiction towards alcohol and smoking. The damage will take
its toll on the person physically and mentally and breaking off from the addiction will
most likely bring withdrawal symptoms and if not treated will result to mental disorders,
she added. She emphasized that there is no cure for drug addiction saying that one can
stop but can still experience its aftermath from time to time.
Open Forum followed the Symposium Proper to give students and even teachers
chance to clarify some issues and queries pertinent to drugs.
The whole program which culminated with an awarding of certificates was
facilitated by the school in coordination with the NDEP Coordinator, Mrs. Gerevee M.
Alcera who also gave her closing remarks to end the activity successfully.
