About HCIS
Established in 2016, set in a natural environment on a hill next to a forest overlooking a beautiful
bay, Hillside Collegiate IS (HCIS) serves a community of over 30 nationalities from Pre-Kindergarten
through to Grade 12.
At the HCIS, all our students are unique individuals, with the potential to make a positive contribution
to the society, community, and school. Our goal is to provide a place where children grow into ethical
citizens with an entrepreneurial spirit, through education that engages them in innovative thinking.
The HCIS is truly international and respectful of the philosophies that people bring from
many different cultures. Each of us has an exceptional opportunity to develop an intercultural
understanding and appreciation. While we have established high standards for academic
achievement and performance, our education has been created with an emphasis on the total growth
of our students, addressing social, physical, emotional, and cultural needs.
All staff of the HCIS are proud to be a part of students' journey, from increasing their academic
knowledge and skills to acquiring life skills for their future success. We welcome you to HCIS where is
a place to inspire a love of learning.

Principal's Message
Believe in the boundless potential of every student.
Welcome to HCIS. It gives me great pleasure to introduce prospective
families to our outstanding academic institution, where students express
their desire to learn with enthusiasm. At the HCIS, we are committed
to enabling each student to achieve more than they might have ever
imagined possible during their years with us and beyond.
As a Korean born Australian, my journey to education leadership has
been focused on creating future opportunities and greater leadership for
young people with Asian backgrounds. The world needs ethical citizens
who have the skills and desire to make a difference locally, nationally,
and globally. I believe that the HCIS is such a place.
From Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12, we ensure that each student is
guided in their learning journey through the support of dedicated and
progressive teachers. Our students will graduate with confidence and
kindness - Brave enough to use their voice, wise enough to listen to their
heart and strong enough to create a life of purpose and meaning.
I hope that you will take the opportunity to explore and consider what
HCIS has to offer your child.
Sincerely,
Kim Peters, Principal

LEARNING
WITH HEAD, HAND,
AND HEART
Primary
Grade 1 - Grade 6
Inspiring a love of learning
Primary (Grade 1 to Grade 6) education is differentiated to support individual student's learning style and
progress. It focuses on developing our student’s capabilities and dispositions into being independent and
masterful learners who are ready to meet present and future challenges.
We base our teaching and learning on the combination of US Common Core and AERO Standards. This
is enhanced with the world-class Australian National Curriculum. Our approach to Primary education is
student-centered, inquiry-based, with authentic problem-solving and creative thinking.
Our teachers provide learning opportunities that ensure individual students' foundational skills and
knowledge are well consolidated with a developmental focus through our Secondary education on
building our students’ confidence, resilience, optimism, and sense of personal identity.

Junior Secondary
Grade 7 – Grade 9
Growing in confidence and character
Junior Secondary years are particularly important. Students face numerous
choices and challenges as they continue to explore their place in the world
through an education emphasising intellectual, emotional, social, and physical
growth. During this time, their growing capacity and ability to make complex
personal choices will establish the attitudes and values they will take into
adulthood.
Our goal is to extend their skills and abilities and to challenge them to examine
their own thoughts and values. To achieve this, it is vital that we offer dynamic

educational programs with a focus on academic excellence through the
Australian National Curriculum and US Common Core Standards, extra co-
curricular enhancement and deeply embedded pastoral care to be ready to excel
in their senior secondary years.
Our Grade 9 course maintains a broad scope of study in order to cater for a
wide range of interests and future possibilities. Students in Grade 9 study the
Australian National Curriculum subjects of English, Mathematics, Science,
Humanities and Social Sciences (History, Geography, Economics, and Business)
and Physical Education, and US Common Core Standards. In addition,
electives offered are Visual Arts, Languages, Drama, Music, Digital and Graphic

Extra-Curricular Activities
Discover more about self
We believe that students learn as much, if not more, outside of the classroom as they do
inside it. Through a wide range of co-curricular activities, our students build self-confidence
and resilience as they master new skills and embrace challenges.
In addition to the common co-curricular activities such as music, arts, sports, drama,
cooking, and debating, we are able to offer a variety of outdoor education activities.
Situated where we are, we have access to a magnificent natural environment, of hillsides,
forest, and a beautiful bay, which gives us many experiential learning opportunities possible
such as mountaineering, sailing, cross country running,
backpacking, camping and many more. Students connect
with nature to learn environmental stewardship.
The HCIS co-curricular activities encourage students
to discover new interests and strengths, make lifelong friends,
and set and achieve goals. We are committed to broadening
students' horizons and provide expert coaching, instruction
and mentoring specific to each co-curricular stream.
Career and
University Counseling
Preparing students
for life beyond
The Secondary provides a practical career and university counselling
program in which students are guided and advised on a subject
choice, course selection, career exploration, and university preparation.
Beginning in Grade 9 through to Grade 12, students are exposed to
different professions in order to equip them to make better choices
for universities and majors. The Director of Student Services and the
career/university counselling team meet with students to discuss
career aspirations, introduce prestigious universities from all corners
of the world, and discuss topics related to academic and university
preparation. Guest speakers from various career fields and university
representatives are a part of this program and provokes students to
begin thinking about career readiness.
The Secondary academic team monitors student progress and analyses
assessment results to ensure that students are given extra support as
needed. Students learn about the independent skills needed to be
prepared for future careers and reflect on personal interests. Students
and families have access to the career/university counselling team and
its services at any grade.
