ENGAGE:
The common concept of recycling is simply that placing bottles in a recycle bin. The modern
version of recycling is much more complicated and involves many more elements. One of the best
ways to manage our trash is to recycle them. The key component to zero waste is recycling.
THE UNIVERSAL RECYCLING SYMBOL
CONCEPTS OF RECYCLING
Recycling is the conversion of old and used materials into new products. It is one of the key
factors to proper waste management. Materials that can be recycled are glass, metal, plastic, paper,
and electronics. Biodegradable waste such as food and garden waste can also be recycled through
composting.
Collection of materials that can be recycled can be done in 2 ways:
1. Bring material to collection centers like junk shops or the barangay waste management
centers.
2. Pick up from residences.
The materials will be sorted, cleaned, and reprocessed into new materials that can be used
into new products either through handicraft project or to be used as raw materials for manufacturing.
You can actually make a difference on how to protect and preserve the environment by setting an
example in your neighborhood. Make cleanliness and orderliness as a policy in your community.
Encourage everyone in your community to follow your example. Teach them proper waste disposal.
You can also organize a recycling project in your community.
RECYCLING CRAFTS
You know that recycling is better for the environment than simply throwing things in the trash
can. You can put your imagination to work. Here are some ideas to get you started.
