WHAT IS AI?

It is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially

intelligent computer programs. It is related to the similar task of using computers
to understand human intelligence, but AI does not have to confine itself to
methods that are biologically observable. Artificial intelligence (AI) makes it
possible for machines to learn from experience, adjust to new inputs and perform
human-like tasks. Most AI examples that you hear about today – from chess-
playing computers to self-driving cars – rely heavily on deep learning and natural
language processing. Using these technologies, computers can be trained to
accomplish specific tasks by processing large amounts of data and recognizing
patterns in the data.

AI History:
The term artificial intelligence was coined in 1956, but AI has become more popular
today thanks to increased data volumes, advanced algorithms, and improvements in
computing power and storage.
Early AI research in the 1950s explored topics like problem solving and symbolic
methods. In the 1960s, the US Department of Defense took interest in this type of work
and began training computers to mimic basic human reasoning. For example, the
Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) completed street mapping
projects in the 1970s. And DARPA produced intelligent personal assistants in 2003, long
before Siri, Alexa or Cortana were household names.
This early work paved the way for the automation and formal reasoning that we see in
computers today, including decision support systems and smart search systems that can
be designed to complement and augment human abilities.

While Hollywood movies and science fiction novels depict AI as human-like robots that
take over the world, the current evolution of AI technologies isn’t that scary – or quite
that smart. Instead, AI has evolved to provide many specific benefits in every industry.
Keep reading for modern examples of artificial intelligence in health care, retail and
more.
Why Is Artificial Intelligence Important?

 AI automates repetitive learning and discovery through data. Instead of automating

manual tasks, AI performs frequent, high-volume, computerized tasks. And it does so
reliably and without fatigue. Of course, humans are still essential to set up the
system and ask the right questions.
 AI adds intelligence to existing products. Many products you already use will be
improved with AI capabilities, much like Siri was added as a feature to a new
generation of Apple products. Automation, conversational platforms, bots and smart
machines can be combined with large amounts of data to improve many
technologies. Upgrades at home and in the workplace, range from security
intelligence and smart cams to investment analysis.

 AI adapts through progressive learning algorithms to let the data do the

programming. AI finds structure and regularities in data so that algorithms can
acquire skills. Just as an algorithm can teach itself to play chess, it can teach itself
what product to recommend next online. And the models adapt when given new
data.
 AI gets the most out of data. When algorithms are self-learning, the data itself is an
asset. The answers are in the data. You just have to apply AI to find them. Since the
role of the data is now more important than ever, it can create a competitive
advantage. If you have the best data in a competitive industry, even if everyone is
applying similar techniques, the best data will win.
Humans May Get Lazy:

With AI doing most of the work, humans may get lazy — this is one of
the biggest arguments against the global adoption of AI. It can cause
a butterfly effect where humans may not bother with learning certain
things and processes since AI already does the job. The result can
mean lost art, knowledge, and so on — and future generations that
may become lazy and complacent.

Humans May Lose Their Jobs….

One of the biggest pros and cons of AI is automation. Just

as automation can streamline processes, increase output,
and reduce costs, it may also result in humans losing their
jobs in some industries. When artificial intelligence takes
over repetitive and/or tedious work, it could lead to the
realization that a job is unnecessary and the person
previously doing that work could lose their employment.
AI is So Expensive to Create:

Developing artificial intelligence is not cheap. It requires

technology — hardware and software — that needs
constant updating to stay effective and relevant. AI is very
complex and requires maintenance, incurring ongoing
costs beyond its initial creation.
New Inventions:

There is no doubt that machines are much better when it comes to

working efficiently but they cannot replace the human connection that
makes the team. Machines cannot develop a bond with humans which is
an essential attribute when comes to Team Management. AI is powering
many inventions in almost every domain which will help humans solve
the majority of complex problems. Recently doctors can predict breast
cancer in the woman at earlier stages using advanced AI-based
technologies. As every bright side has a darker version in it.

Machines can perform only those tasks which they are

designed or programmed to do, anything out of that they
tend to crash or give irrelevant outputs which could be a
major backdrop.
Artificial Intelligence in Pakistan:
After all, Pakistan has great potential in AI, with its scope ranging
from solving local problems in agriculture, governance, climate
change, and manufacturing, to creating tech unicorns and services
companies specialising in hi-tech/ AI software exports. In fact, a few
research labs, companies, and startups are already making strides in
the AI space and contributing to the global tech ecosystem. For
example, a group of professors at Information Technology University
(ITU) Lahore are solving impactful problems and publishing their
research at top-tier AI conferences. One of the most exciting works
from their Intelligent Machines Lab is an economic indicators
predictor that uses satellite and aerial imagery. They are developing
computer vision/ AI tech that examines a satellite image and
responds with a poverty estimate for an area, providing government
and policymakers the data to make informed decisions. The National
Centre of Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) is a technological initiative
established by the government of Pakistan in 2018In addition, a few
more labs at ITU, NUST, LUMS, PUCIT, FAST, and other universities
are solving fundamental AI problems. They publish their work at top-
tier international venues and collaborate with companies like Google
and Facebook.
Imma Gram From Japan:
It seems like the future has arrived sooner than we anticipated.
Modern technology has made a significant breakthrough over the
past decades, and it’s not going to slow down. It has come to a
point when things are often not as they seem, so basically, you
can’t trust anyone on the Internet. And here is the ‘not so living’
proof of that – Imma. She’s an Instagram influencer with a
following of over 30k people, though she will never step on a
catwalk or appear at a fashion event. She’s a robot.
Rocking the infamous bubble gum pink bob and ultra fine fashion, she
was selected for “New 100 Talent To Watch” by Japan Economics
Entertainment, and has appeared in numerous headlines from fashion
to business magazines, TV and online, as well as being cast for top
brands such as Porsche Japan, IKEA, Dior, Puma, Nike, Valentino,
Amazon, Calvin Klein, Valentino...the list goes on.
Metaverse :

The Metaverse AI has become one of the hottest topics in technology and
socioeconomics. The role of AI in Metaverse involves combining various
technologies such as VR, 3D animation, and blockchain and many companies
are already working on creating services for this new digital world.

How Does AI Work in Metaverse:

With the help of such technologies as Natural Language Processing

(NLP), speech recognition, computer vision, translation, and
augmented reality, the users will be able to interact with the
Metaverse in their native language and through images and videos
and enhance the user-metaverse interactions
How Metaverse Will Change The World:
The Metaverse – introduced by Mark Zuckerberg in October 2021 – has
already made waves in online communities. It was a shocking
announcement that showed how technology would increase its
influence around the world. While it is still taking form, Metaverse has
the potential to change how people go about their daily lives. While
people will still need real human interaction, the Metaverse could create
better ways to communicate with those who are far away. It could give
users easier access to doctor visits, shopping, work, and styling. While
still in its infancy, the Metaverse could grow into something that changes
lives everywhere. Brands could also use the Metaverse to let people try
on clothing. It could create a much more interactive online shopping
experience. As this technology develops, people could design avatars
matching their bodies exactly and try on clothes virtually before buying.
When using the Metaverse, people design their own avatars. This could
include makeup, tattoos, clothing, and hairstyles. With the ability to try
out new fashion virtually, users might feel more comfortable doing so in
real life.
As other people become more accepting of stylized avatars, they may
also feel the same way outside the Metaverse. Virtual reality has the
potential to make society more accepting of others. The Metaverse may
be a solution to the isolation many remote workers face. Employers
could utilize digital workspaces, allowing employees to get to the office
without commuting. It could redefine the meaning of “face to face.”
People could touch base with their co-workers and bosses in real-time
and feel more involved in distanced meetings.

AI may also come into play. By creating a digital twin, some workers
could choose to send “themselves” to work when they need a sick or
mental-health day. AI can allow employees to still be productive while
they need time off. It’s capable of benefitting workers and employers.
Elon Musk On AI:

Musk has said he fears artificial intelligence could one day outsmart
humans and endanger us, citing AI as the biggest threat to civilization.
But he said that by building the Tesla robot, the company could ensure it
would be safe

Musk has, for years, seemed to be attuned to the dangers of AI. As far
back as 2014, he told students at MIT that "I'm increasingly inclined to
think that there should be some regulatory oversight, maybe at the
national and international level, just to make sure that we don't do
something very foolish.”
CONCLUSION:

AI is very beneficial to society and has a huge potential to do

great things in the world. AI is shown to make life easier and
more precise in both the workplace and the home, which is the
whole main goal. AI will continue to only benefit society unless
someone uses it in a way that is destructive and harmful to
humans.
