A. Content The learner demonstrates understanding of: contemporary Philippine
Standards literature as a means of responding to the demands of the global village;
various extended text types; lexical and contextual cues; appropriate and
polite oral language, stance, and behavior; and use of imperatives,
prepositions, verbs, and wh-questions.
B. Performance The learner transfers learning by: explaining the need to be cooperative
Standards and responsible in today’s global village; using appropriate strategies to
comprehend extended text types; using lexical and contextual clues to
understand unfamiliar words and expressions; using imperatives,
prepositions, and appropriate and polite oral language, stance and
behavior in various information-sharing formats.

A. Presenting Before we proceed to our lesson for today, let us have first a game.
New Lesson
Are you familiar with the game “Bring Me?”

I will give you first the instructions on how to play it.

First, I will choose six players, then I will group them into two. Each
group will have three players.

The two groups will fall in line, then choose two players, one from each
group, to play every round.

I will tell every player to bring me the pictures of different facial


expressions that is hidden inside the room.

After bringing me the picture I’ve asked, the player will imitate the
facial expression shown in the picture.

The player who will win in each round will get one point. The group
who earned highest point will hailed as the winner.

New Concepts
What is a preposition?
A preposition is a word used to link nouns, pronouns, or phrases
to other words within a sentence.
They act to connect the people, objects, time and locations of a
sentence.
Prepositions are usually short words, and they are normally
placed directly in front of nouns. In some cases, you’ll find
prepositions in front of gerund verbs.
Three types of Preposition
1. Preposition of time
2. Preposition of place
3. Preposition of movement & direction

Preposition of Time- A preposition of time is a preposition that allows


you to discuss a specific time period such as a date on the calendar, one
of the days of the week, or the actual time something takes place.
Prepositions of time are the same words as prepositions of place,
however they are used in a different way.
 At – This preposition of time is used to discuss clock times,
holidays and festivals, and other very specific time frames
including exceptions, such as “at night.”

 In – This preposition of time is used to discuss months, seasons,
years, centuries, general times of day, and longer periods of time
such as “in the past.”
 On – This preposition of time is used to discuss certain days of
the week or portions of days of the week, specific dates, and
special days such as “on New Year’s Day.”

Preposition of Movement & Direction- A preposition of movement


show movement from one place to another place. These prepositions
always describe movement and we usually use them with verbs of
motion.

The most common preposition of movement is the preposition to, which


describes movement in the direction of something, for example:
How do you go to work?
He drove to London in five hours.

Prepositions of Movement Lists

across: movement from one side to the other side of something


 It took us three days to drive across the desert.
 The dog ran across the road and nearly got hit by a car.
around: movement passing something in a curved route, not going
through it
 A big dog was sleeping on the floor so she had to walk around it.
 They walked around the town for an hour.
away from: indicating the point where a movement begins
 The mouse ran away from the cat and escaped.
down: movement from a higher point to a lower point of something
 They ran down the hill to the stream below.
 He climbed down the ladder to the bottom of the well.
from: indicating the point where a movement begins
 We flew from Bangkok to London.
 The police took my driving licence from me.
into: movement to an enclosed space; movement resulting in physical
contact
 He got into the car and closed the door.
 The car crashed into the wall.
off: movement away from (and often down from) something
 Please take your papers off my desk.
 The wineglass fell off the table and shattered on the floor.
on to, onto: movement to the top surface of something
 They went up on to the stage.
 Move the kettle onto the counter.
out of: indicating the enclosed space where a movement begins
 Take your hands out of your pockets and help me!
 He went out of the room to smoke a cigarette.
over: movement above and across the top or top surface of something
 We are flying over the mountains.
 The cat jumped over the wall.
past: movement from one side to the other side of something

D. Practicing This time, you will have an activity about the three types of prepositions
New Skills namely; preposition of time, preposition of place and preposition of
movement/direction.

(In this activity, the class will be divided onto three groups. Each group
will be given a set of sentences to study and analyze. They have to
identify the preposition used in each sentence and its function. They
should present their answers in table form using manila paper. After
completing the task, the group will select one of their members to
present their work to the class.)
