Instructions

Interview Waiver (IW) Qualifications

 Applicant must possess a full-validity B1/B2, C1/D, F, M, J, H or L visa that expired within the past 24 months from date of application or
will expire in the next three months from date of application. (the date of application is the same date as the scheduled appointment date)
 Applicant must be applying for a visa in the same visa classification as the expired/expiring visa.
 Applicant must be a citizen or resident of Nigeria.
 Applicant must not have been refused a visa since the issuance of the previous visa, or had a visa revoked, or have ever required a waiver.
 Applicant must possess all issued passports covering the entire period since receiving the previous visa and the passport wit h the most
recent visa.
 Applicant has never been arrested or convicted of any crime or offense in the United States, even if the applicant has later received a waiver
or pardon.
 Applicant has never worked without authorization or remained beyond their permitted time in the United States.
 Applicant (if under 18) must be able to submit a photocopy of parent(s) valid visa(s) unless parent(s) are also applying at the same time and
the minor meets all the above qualifications.

In your submission for an B1/B2 or C1/D visa you must include the following documents. (Please do not include any documents not listed):

 This letter.
 A passport containing the expired non-immigrant visa (if that passport is expired, a current valid passport is also required).
 Original GTB payment receipt for MRV fee.
 DS-160 confirmation page. Must be completed or updated within the last six months and must be uploaded to your application profile.
 Two (2) 5x5 cm color photographs with a white background, taken no more than six (6) months ago and without glasses. (Do not reuse your
photo from a previous application)
 Minors (under 18) – photocopy of parent(s)’ valid visas unless parents are also applying for IW at the same time.
 C1/Ds: letter from the employer outlining the scope, duration, and location of the anticipated work.

In your submission for a F or M visa, you must include the following documents (Please do not include any documents not listed):

 This letter.
 A passport containing the expired non-immigrant visa (if that passport is expired, a current valid passport is also required).
 Valid I-20 issued by the certified institution
 Receipt of payment of SEVIS fee.
 Original GTB payment receipt for MRV fee.
 DS-160 confirmation page. Must be completed or updated within the last six months and must be uploaded to your application profile.
 Two (2) 5x5 cm color photographs with a white background, taken no more than six (6) months ago and without glasses. (Do not reuse your
photo from a previous application)

Application Process
If you apply for a visa renewal without an interview, you must electronically complete all visa application forms. Detailed instructions concerning the
nonimmigrant visa application process are located on the [Link]/ng website.

Family Applications
If more than one member of an immediate family (defined as a spouse and/or child(ren under 18) will be applying at the same time, only one applying
spouse/parent must appear in-person to submit the applications. If applying solely for a child(ren) under 18, one parent of the applying child(ren) must
appear in person to submit the application(s) for the child(ren) - the child(ren) do not need to be present.

In-Person Application Requirement


Outside of the accommodations for immediate family applications (see above), each applicant must apply in-person.

In-Person Interview May Be Required


Any applicant who submits an incomplete or unqualified application, or where potentially derogatory information is found will be asked to schedule an
in-person interview.

Processing Time – 2 Months


Application processing time is two months from date of application. Processing times are updated at [Link]
visas. We cannot return a passport during processing; therefore, do not apply for a visa renewal without an interview if you might need your passport
for any purpose during the processing period.

Caution: We encourage all visa applicants to complete their application forms themselves, or to use caution if using a third-party to assist in
completing the application form. The visa applicant is responsible for any false or incorrect information in their own application form,
regardless of whether a third-party assisted in preparing the application.

DON’T BE A VICTIM OF VISA APPLICATION FRAUD OR ABUSE


You should never be asked to pay additional money at any time in the visa application process outside of published application fees. If you are asked to

You are not allowed to enter the U.S. Embassy or Consulate General while carrying any of the following items: battery-operated or
electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital diaries, digital watches, pagers, cameras, audio/video cassettes, compact discs, MP3s,
floppy disks, laptops, or portable music players large shoulder bags/purses - only bags that can be carried by hand will be permitted
sealed envelopes or packages cigarettes, cigars, match boxes, lighters sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail files weapons or
explosive materials of any kind This list is not exhaustive. Other items may be prohibited at the discretion of security staff. There is no
facility at the Embassy/Consulate general to store prohibited items. You must make arrangements to store these items before you enter
the Embassy/Consulate General. Due to security considerations, there is no information window for walk -in visitors at the Embassy or
the Consulate General. Only visa applicants with scheduled interviews will be admitted into the Embassy/Consulate General. The
Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate in Lagos take no responsibility for the loss of articles left in vehicles during visa
interviews.

No money should to be given to anyone for any reason outside and inside the
Embassy or Consulate.
Please note that no tips should be given or offered in the form of money or
gift items to the employees or security guards or at the DHL delivery
locations.

Effective immediately, visa applicants who do not upload their photos when
submitting their DS-160 visa application will be turned away and advised to
complete their application by uploading a proper photo. This will usually
require the rescheduling of their appointment. The process for uploading
photos is easy and is thoroughly explained in our on-line application. Avoid
disappointment and delay—upload your photo as part of your visa
application!
