INTRODUCTION:
Appetizers are finger foods usually served prior to a meal, or in between mealtimes, and
are also called hors d’oeuvres, antipasti, or starters. Many ranges from very simple to very
complex depending on the occasion and the time devoted in making them. They’re a common
accompaniment to aperitifs and cocktails served prior to a meal. At dinners, banquets, and the like,
appetizers may be served prior to a meal. This is especially common at weddings when it takes
time for the wedding party and guests to get a reception after the marriage has taken. Appetizers
can also be served at long parties that occur after a regular mealtime. Many restaurants feature a
range of appetizers that are ordered just prior to a meal as a first course. In this module, we will dig

DAY 1:
Appetizers are usually reserved for formal meals and when guests come over. They are
traditionally high in calories and often deep-fried. However, a meal consisting of a few, small,
healthy appetizers can be an interesting and varied alternative to one large unhealthy entrée.
Today, appetizers regain importance as diners seek variety and excitement. In French, the word
entrée means appetizer, while in the United States, it means the main course. An appetizer should
always be served as a small portion and is defined as a food item served before the main course
of a meal to stimulate appetite.
