Cement Treated Sub-Base Construction Guide

This method statement outlines the procedures for constructing a cement treated sub-base (CTSB) layer for flexible pavement. It details the materials, equipment, and process required, which includes determining the optimum mix through trial designs, stockpiling and mixing ingredients, spreading and compacting the mix, and curing for 7 days. The CTSB layer must meet compaction and surface level tolerances to be accepted. Safety precautions like restricted speeds, lighting, and flagmen are also specified.

METHOD STATEMENT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF CONSTRUCTION OF

CEMENT TREATED SUB-BASE (CTSB)

1. SCOPE

This work shall consists of laying and compacting well graded Cement Treated Sub
base layer on prepared subgrade for flexible pavement as per the drawing.

2. REFERENCE:

MORT&H specification section No: 403 and technical specification of contract.

3. EQUIPMENT:

Continuous Type Pugmil Plant, Dumpers, Motor grader/Paver, Vibratory Roller,

water tanker, Auto level etc.

4. MATERIALS:

GSB, Cement and Water.

The aggregate shall be produce from the multiple stage crushing and screening
plant.

Physical Properties:

The Aggregate blend for CTSB for roads shall confirm to grading requirements
mentioned in table 400-4 in MoRT&H specification.

CTSB Trial Mix:

 Laboratory trial have been carried out to determine the optimum cement
content and water content for the proposed mix to achieve compressive
strength of 1.75Mpa in 7Days.

 Trial mixes shall be prepared at varying water content or as necessary by

weight of dry materials at 0.5% intervals to arrive at optimum moisture content
and degree of compaction.
5. PROCEDURE:

 The CTSB materials ingredient to be determine by trial mix design.

 The required GSB material of CTSB mix will stock yard near by mixing unit.
 Sample from stocked materials to be take and checked for gradation.

 The material is transfer to mixing unit of continuous/discontinuous pugmil type

plant.

 GSB Material and cement to be mixed with water as required quantity per
cum based on the mix design and necessary moisture correction. The mix will
transport through dumpers with all precautions.

 Before dumping material subgrade should be watered and compacted.

 Over prepared subgrade, mix shall uniformly spread with Motor grader /
Paver. The required camber, grade and thickness checked.

 After satisfactory of level, compaction should start with vibratory roller as

determine in the trial stretch.

 All the depression and segregated portions will be rectify during initial rolling
itself.

 Completion of rolling stretch is to be test for degree of compaction with

respect to MDD of design mix.

 Field compaction test shall be conduct as per MoRTH clause No.403.3.5 and
recorded in the specific format.

 Surface levels will be maintained as per table no 900-1 and recorded in the
specified format.

 The layer is should be cured for 7 Days.

Acceptance Criteria:

 The field density shall be more than 98% of MDD

 The tolerance on the surface level shall be ±10mm

6. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:

 All vehicle shall be provided with reverse horn.

 Flagmen shall be provided all exit points of the trucks.

 The speed of the vehicles plying in the work area shall be restricted to
40Kmph maximum.

 If night work is to be carried out the area shall be sufficiently provided with
lighting.
