ORDER:-

As per section 5-A of the Chennai City Municipal Corporation Act, 1919,
there shall be constituted by the State Government, by notification, such number of
wards committees comprising territorial area of such number of wards as may be
specified in the notification within the territorial area of the corporation and each wards
Committee shall consist of all the councillors of the corporation representing the wards
within the territorial area of the wards committee. Further the State Government may,
after consultation with the corporation from time to time, by notification, alter the name,
increase or diminish the area of any wards committee specified in the notification issued
under sub-section (1) of said section 5-A.

2. Consequent to the expansion of the Chennai City and increase in the number
of Divisions from 155 to 200, the Chennai Corporation Commissioner in his letter second
read above, has proposed that the number of Wards Committees may be increased from
the present 10 to 15 and the territorial area of such Wards Committee may be as below:

3. The Chennai Corporation Commissioner, in his letter sixth read above has
informed that, the Chennai Corporation Council, in its resolution No.284/2011, dated
8.9.2011, has resolved to accept and implement the proposal of the Chennai
Corporation Commissioner regarding constitution of Wards Committee sent to the
Government, in the reference second read above and therefore, requested the
Government to issue necessary orders constituting the Wards Committee and to notify
the same.

4. In the reference fifth read above, the remarks of the Deputy Commissioner
(R&F) and Special Officer (Reorganization) Chennai City Expansion, on the
representation to include Division Nos. 168 and169 in the proposed Zone-XIV, were
called for. The Special Officer in his report, seventh read above, has recommended that
Division numbers 168 and169 may be deleted from Zone-XII and added with Zone-XIV,
in view of the reasons that, all the 20 numbers of Wards pertaining to Sholinganallur
Assembly Constituency will be only in two Zones namely XIV and XV (instead of in three
Zones XII, XIV and XV in the original proposal) and the newly constructed municipal
building of Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam may be utilized as the Zonal Office for
the Zone-XIV.

5. In the circumstances stated above, the Government after careful examination

of the proposal of the Commissioner, Chennai Corporation and the recommendation of
the Deputy Commissioner (Revenue and Finance) and Special Officer (Reorganization),
Chennai City Expansion, at para-4 above, have decided to constitute the Wards
Committee for the expanded Chennai City Corporation, as detailed below:

NOTIFICATION.
In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 5-A of the
Chennai City Municipal Corporation Act, 1919 (Tamil Nadu Act IV of 1919), and in
supersession of the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department Notification
[Link] (2)/MW/2096(I-1)/96, published at pages 1 to 2 of Part II – Section 2 of the Tamil
Nadu Government Gazette, dated the 15th October, 1996, the Governor of Tamil Nadu,
hereby constitutes fifteen wards committees for the Municipal Corporation of Chennai
and each wards committee specified in column (2) of the Table below shall comprise the
territorial area of the wards specified in the corresponding entry in column (3) thereof :-
