CARDABUROT (Math Research)

This document presents a mathematical model to calculate the probability of drawing a red card from a standard 52-card deck, replacing it, and then drawing a heart card. The probability of drawing a red card on the first draw is 26/52 = 1/2. The probability of then drawing a heart card is 13/52 = 1/4. Since the draws are independent events, the overall probability is the product of these individual probabilities, which is 1/8. The model is verified by calculating the probabilities for alternative events.

I. Introduction

Deck of Cards is a kind of gambling people do. Although it has been announced

illegal but gambling on card games has remained popular to the present day. A lot of

people play cards purely for fun and satisfaction or simply as a contest of skill. A

further motivation to play to win is the stake. A standard deck of playing cards is

consist of 52 cards in each of the 4 suits of Spades, Hearts Diamonds, and Clubs. In

each suit contains 13 cards; Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King. The

probability of selecting the correct cards can be solved using: probability is equal to

number of favorable outcomes divided to the total number of possible outcomes.

II. Statement of the Problem

This research aims to know that using a standard deck of cards which has 26 red

cards and 26 black cards, with 13 cards of every suit, what is the probability of

selecting a red card, and then after replacing the card, selecting a heart card?

III. Data Gathering and Model(s) Formulated

Given:
Total number of cards in a deck = 52

Number of red cards = 26

Number of heart cards = 13

The probability of selecting a red card is:

number of red cards

total number of cards∈a deck

26
P1=
52

Next, the selected card is replaced. Thus, 52 cards are complete.

The probability of selecting a heart card is:

number of heart cards

total number of cards∈a deck

13
P2=
52

It is a need to find the combined probability of both events. Since both events are

independent of each other, this can apply to the multiplication rule.

Therefore, the probability is:

P= P1*P₂

IV. Interpreting the Model

1
It is expected that the probability of getting a red card in the third draw is .
2

In the first draw, the card that is selected is a Queen of spades black card. In the

second draw, it is a 7 of clubs black card. From the third draw, the card that has been

selected is Ace of Hearts red card. After knowing the probability of getting a red card,

the selected card is being replaced. 52 cards are complete. The probability of

1
selecting a heart card is expected to be in the fourth draw. In the first draw the card
4

that has been selected is 2 of clubs. In the second draw, it is a 4 of clubs. From the

third draw, the card that is selected is Ace of Spades. In the fourth draw, the card that

is selected is a 5 of hearts. Since both events are independent of each other, it is a

need to find the combined probability of both events. This can be answered by using

1
the multiplication rule. When both events are multiplied, the product will be which
8

will the probability of selecting a red card, and then after replacing the card and

selecting a heart card.

V. Verify the Model

To verify the model, replace red cards into black cards and replace heart cards

into face cards to determine whether the probability will remain the same.

The probability of selecting a black card is:

number of black cards

total number of cards∈a deck

26
P1=
52

1
P1=
2

1
Thus, the probability of selecting a black card is
2

The probability of selecting a face card is:

number of face cards

total number of cards∈a deck

13
P2=
52

1
P2=
4

1
Hence, the probability of selecting a face card is
4
Since both events are independent of each other, it’s a need to find the combined

probability of both events.

P= P1*P₂

1 1
P= ×
2 4

1
P=
8

So therefore, the probability of selecting a black card, and then after replacing the

1
card, selecting a face card is . And thus, the investigation conclude that whether the
8

red card will be used, the probability is the same. And whether the heart card will be

used, the probability is the same and proven true.

VI. Extensions

The two joker cards can be played in the “unggoy unggoy” game. By using these

cards, this will add up to the 52 cards which makes it 54 card in total if the two joker

cards will be used.
