Problems on Frequency Distribution
Problem No. 1
In a survey of 40 families in a village, the number of children per family was recorded and the following
data obtained.
10321562
21034216
32153324
22302145
33441245
Represent the data in the form of a discrete frequency distribution.
Problem No. 2
The Following are the weights of 50 Students.
47 51 48 46 52 60 44 45 57 66
56 48 43 69 53 54 41 57 65 49

Form a frequency distribution table taking width of Class Interval 5 using:
a. Inclusive class Interval
b. Exclusive Class Interval
c. Calculate relative frequency.
Problem No. 3
The Following data gives ages of 32 individuals in a locality. Form a continuous frequency distribution
using exclusive type of class intervals.
23 46 08 13 29 36 28 01
19 28 33 11 20 28 10 59
30 43 39 30 21 40 33 36
29 21 40 16 41 19 20 31
Problem No. 4
Calculate Frequency density from the following details.
Class Frequencies
Interval (f)
0–5 3
5 – 10 10
10 – 20 25
20 – 40 15
Problem No. 5
Prepare a frequency distribution of the number of letters in a word from the following excerpt (ignore
punctuation marks).
“In the beginning”, said a Persian Poet, “Allah took a rose, a lily, a dove, a serpent, a little honey, a
Dead Sea Apple and a handful of clay. When he looked at the amalgam – it was a woman.”
Also obtain:
(i) the number of words with 6 letters or more,
(ii) the proportion of words with 5 letters or less, and
(iii) the percentage of words with number of letters between 2 and 8 (i.e., more than 2 but less than 8).
