Space Hotel

The concept proposes a space hotel consisting of modules connected by elevators that rotate to create artificial gravity. Designed to resemble luxury hotels on Earth, the interior would feature comfortable furnishings and relaxing designs to create a familiar environment for guests. Amenities would include bars, restaurants serving both space food and traditional cuisine, as well as recreational activities taking advantage of low gravity conditions. While initial trips will be expensive, costing around $250,000, the goal is for space travel and stays at the hotel to eventually become as common as cruises or trips to amusement parks. Several companies are working to make space tourism a reality.

THE SPACE HOTEL

If you're daydreaming of future travels while stuck at home during the pandemic, why fantasize about the
beaches of Bali or the canals of Venice when vacationing in space could be in your future?
The hotel would be a cruise ship-style hotel that could one day float above the Earth's atmosphere.
This futuristic hotel concept, will consist of several modules connected by elevator shafts that make up a
rotating wheel orbiting the Earth.
A hotel like no other
Renderings of what the hotel might look like suggest an interior not dissimilar to a luxury Earth-bound
hotel, just with some pretty spectacular out-of-this-world views.
But what do you imagine a hotel in the middle of space to be like? A place with sterile rooms, clean,
aliens..? Or would you find it much more exciting to think of the most luxurious and comfortable 5 star
hotels on the face of the earth? Perhaps those outrageous 7 star Dubai hotels…?
The idea is to bring a slice of earth to space via warm suites and chic bars and restaurants. Guests might be
in space, but they can still enjoy comfortable beds and regular showers.
That's not to say the hotel will ignore the novelty of being in space altogether. There are plans to serve
traditional "space food" -- like freeze dried ice cream -- in the hotel's restaurant.
The hotel will also serve the usual luxury hotel food, with all kinds of delicacies.
Plus there will be recreational activities on offer that highlight the fact that you're able to do things that
you can't do on Earth: Because of the weightlessness and the reduced gravity, you'll be able to jump higher,
be able to lift things, be able to run in ways that you can't on Earth.
How does artificial gravity work?
The rotating wheel would work to create a simulated gravity, pushing the contents of the station out to the
perimeter of the station, much in the way that you can spin a bucket of water: the water pushes out into the
bucket and stays in place.
Near the center of the station there's no artificial gravity, but as you move down the outside of the station,
the feeling of gravity increases.
How to get to the space hotel? And what about price?
Space tourism is becoming an increasingly hot topic, and there are several companies trying to make it
happen, from Virgin Galactic to Elon Musk's SpaceX.
As for the price, it is expected to be high, around $250,000 per person per trip, which will make these trips
very elitist, aimed at a high-income segment of the population.
However, it is expected that, eventually, a stay at the hotel will be equivalent to a cruise or a trip to
Disneyland.
"Eventually, going to space will just be another option people will pick for their vacation, just like
going on a cruise, or going to Disney World," (Alatorre)

The idea of going to space for next summer vacation is still hard to believe, but it is becoming
more and more real. With this new possibility many have wondered how this hotel might look
inside, picturing it with a futuristic look. The reality would be more common. The hotel will be
design to look more like the 7 stars hotels that can be found in Dubai.

Designed to look like a luxury earth-bound hotel, but dismissing any futuristic furniture often
depicted in movies. With comfortable furniture, natural materials and relaxing colours to create a
calm, Terrestre environment. Set to make a more inviting space, clients will enjoy a vacation in a
known environment with breath-taking views.

The aim is to bring a part of earth to space with the warm rooms, and the best bars and restaurants
form earth. Guest will be far from home but they won´t feel homesick. However this vacation plan
will stand out for its space experience. The idea is to serve as well traditional astronaut food such
as dried ice cream and offer some recreational activities taking advantage of the weightlessness
and reduced gravity. With gyms create to take advantage and use for low-gravity games, jump
higher than ever imagined, lift really heavy things or even run in ways that defy the laws of
physics.

The biggest challenge about creating this luxurious ship is the to simulate gravity. This rotating
wheel pushes the contents of the station to its perimeter. Near the centre of the station there is no
artificial gravity, as you move towards the outside of the station, gravity increases. Artificial
gravity is not much a matter of comfort as it is of safety. Astronauts who have spent long periods
of time in weightlessness have experience some health issues such as weakness, swelling and eye
problems. Over all the “fake” gravity will let guests eat, shower or use the bathroom, as well as
enjoy the activities that would be impossible on earth due to the fact that it is weaker.

Many are the companies who are joining this new space race. More and more companies are
trying to make space tourism happen, from Virginia Galactic to Elon Musk´s Space X.

The price for trip is expected to be around $250,000 per person, which will make trips aimed at a
high-income of the population. Nevertheless, it is expected that, in time, it will be equivalent to a
trip to Disneyland or a cruise.
