Activity for Course Packet 14B
The Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers
Directions: Review the content of the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers. Reflect on
the contents of the provision as applied in the teaching profession. Afterwards, provide
what are called for each of the items in this activity.
1. State in your own words the importance of the Code.
- The code of ethics helps to establish standards of conduct and professionalism, and promotes a
positive and safe learning environment for all. Additionally, it allows for the protection of the
rights of teachers and students, and helps to ensure that teachers are held accountable for their
actions.
2. A teacher is selling goods in school consumable by teachers and students? Is there a
provision of the code violated by the teacher? Why?
- A teacher selling goods, whether it is consumable by teachers and students or not, would be
considered a violation of this provision. This is because it could be perceived as a conflict of
interest and could compromise the teacher's ability to act in the best interest of their students.
Additionally, it may be seen as exploitative, taking advantage of the captive audience at the
school for personal gain.
3. Cite a sample case decided by the Supreme Court involving the relationship of teacher
and her/his students.
- The following scenario involves a 30-year-old female instructor and a 16-year-old male pupil.
Many people wonder what the Supreme Court would rule if the case included an older male
instructor and a minor female pupil. Given that there is no solid proof of the claimed immoral
activities, the purported violation of the Code of Ethics guiding school instructors has no
validity. Private respondent failed to demonstrate that petitioner used her position to court her
pupil. If the two finally fell in love, despite their ages and scholastic levels, it just adds weight to
the axiom that the heart has motives that reason does not understand. However, succumbing to
this benign and universal emotion should not be so lightly associated with immorality. The
divergence of their marriage's conditions from the ordinary societal pattern cannot be seen as a
rejection of present social norms.
4. A single and unwed teacher got pregnant. Due to this unwanted pregnancy, the teacher
was removed by the school administrators from the service on the count of immorality.
Was the decision consonance with the code or not? Support your answer.
- The decision to remove the teacher from service on the count of immorality is not in
consonance with the code of ethics for professional teachers in the Philippines. Removing the
teacher solely based on her unwed pregnancy constitutes discrimination and violates her right to
privacy. The Philippines has laws that protect women's rights, including the Anti-Sexual
Harassment Act of 1995 and the Magna Carta of Women.
5. What do you resolve to do your continuing professional development as a teacher?
- Seek out mentorship, seek out mentorship from more experienced teachers to gain insight and
guidance in areas of professional development. And participate in teacher communities, by
joining teacher communities it can provide a supportive environment for sharing ideas,
resources, and strategies with other educators.
6. Discuss the importance of continuing professional education plan.
- Continuing Professional Education (CPE) is a continuous process that assists educators remain
staying up to date and improving their knowledge, abilities, and teaching techniques. Teachers
must participate in CPE in order to deliver the finest education possible to their students. Keeps
Teachers Up-to-date with the Latest Pedagogy: CPE ensures that teachers are informed about the
latest teaching methods, technologies, and curriculum changes. This helps teachers to provide the
best possible education for their students by incorporating new and innovative strategies into
their teaching practice.
