1.0- INTRODUCTION
SYSTEM OUTLINE
Pretreatment is very important for Reverse Osmosis system. A well design pretreatment
would prolong the life of RO membrane and provide smooth system operation. The common
pretreatment is to protect RO membrane from fouling caused by suspended solids Silts Metal
salts and bio-film as well as scaling caused by precipitation of sparingly soluble salts
concentrated beyond their solubility limits.
FILTRATION SYSTEM
The design of this system is based on the pre-treatment capacity of the RO plant. The design
of RO plant is based 5.0 m³/hr flow rate and 70 %[Link] requires pre-treatment
including sand filter of capacity of 7.14 m³/hr which has been included in our system.

To hinder salt crystallization so as to prevents scaling

membrane elements, the feed water will be split into a low saline product, called permeate
and a high saline brine, called concentrate or reject. A flow regulating valve, called
concentrate valve, controls the percentage of feed water that is going to the concentrate
stream and permeate which will be obtained from the feed.
