Classroom Management Plan
Personal Theory
I believe a good classroom management plan creates an effective teaching and learning environment for teacher and students. A
classroom that is managed properly provides curriculum that is interesting, challenging and keeps students fully engaged. I believe in
positive redirection of behavior and promoting individual responsibility of oneself within the classroom. My philosophy on classroom
management is rooted in respecting the individuality of all students and the teacher. I believe all students have authentic qualities and
characteristics that are shaped by diverse cultures and backgrounds. As a teacher I will approach challenges with students to find
solutions about classroom matters. I will work with students and provide and expressive atmosphere to exchange viewpoints of
teacher and students, to ensure safe, respectful working and learning conditions. As a teacher I will work alongside students to create
acceptable rules within the classroom environment. I work with students to establish boundaries and as guide I will enforce boundaries
within the classroom. In my classroom I will also create a climate that establishes all students belong and bring special and unique
qualities to our classroom. It is my goal as a teacher to aid students in making good decisions and responsible choices in classroom
activities and among peers. As a teacher I will routinely meet with students individually and as a class to communicate future
curriculum and encourage students overall. I believe it is my responsibility to provide a quality education for all students in my care. I
will ensure students understand they also have a responsibility as a member of our classroom to ensure a quality of learning for
themselves as well as others. I will also ensure students receive logical consequences for misbehavior for a sense of responsibility for
actions, in a positive and loving way.

Classroom Environment
The layout of my classroom is rooted in creating a classroom with resources to aid with learning. Examples of this includes having
literacy and math concepts posted around the classroom. I have six tables; this will represent students being grouped together to
develop teamwork and support among their peers. In these groups I hope students develop socially and learn to support and encourage
their fellow peer. I will also use a diverse seating among students by gender and academic ability within each group of tables. My desk
will be by the small group table, here my computer and teacher resources will be accessible for easy accountability of students and
teacher supplies. At this position I will be able to see every area of my classroom, and this will ensure safety of my students and
myself. The technology and iPad station is near my desk as well to ensure proper oversight for the safety of students and classroom
environment, but to also ensure support for use of equipment. There is a supply room for all of school supplies to be properly stored
to keep the classroom from being cluttered and unorganized. There is also proper space for backpacks, and lunch bags to be stored.
There is separate storage cubbies to store materials for math and literacy centers for students to easily access them for set up and put
away once complete. Students will have a classroom library for quiets reading and a calm down areas if a student needs a break or feel
overwhelmed. Our classroom will have two-word walls, one will have words we add throughout the year and the other will list
blends, digraphs and identify parts of speech to aid with expression through print. We have a carpet facing the smart board that will
support morning message and meetings and classroom discussions. In my classroom I want my students to use the resources around
them to solve problems and be creative. It is my desire for students to become familiar with the classroom layout and comfortable with
using the classroom as the would at home. This includes leaving an area the way they found it and respecting all equipment and spaces
to be used by others.
Behavior Management
In addressing behavior management within my classroom, I will initially build positive relationships with all of my students. I believe
affirming teacher/student connections will build on the foundation of managing the behavior of my students. Maintaining appropriate
student behavior will be a result of close relationships, positive non-punitive interventions and punitive consequences as necessary. As
a teacher I will communicate to every student a caring and supportive classroom environment. I will learn about my students’ lives
and share portions of my life with my students as well. I will communicate to my students my expectations of their attitudes and
behavior within a classroom environment and on campus grounds with all students and staff. I will give specific feedback to students
if and when behavior or attitudes are inappropriate for the learning environment. I will listen to students and be open to culture and
ethnic difference among my students. I will create an environment where students have opportunities to share personal discussion and
interactions appropriate for the classroom and one on one discussions with the teacher. As a teacher I will reinforce positive behavior
with verbal and written recognition of acceptable behavior and attitudes though-out the school year. I will praise students on specific
appropriate behavior individually, by groups, or as a whole class. Some of those incentives will be privileges and/or preferred
activities among students. They could be helping the teacher, extra time playing preferred board games or technology games. More
privileges or activities could be classroom jobs, stickers, awards, special supplies like smelly pens or erasers. All incentives will be to
acknowledge appropriate behavior and encourage continued good behavior. On the contrary if misbehavior occurs, students will be
also given verbal and/or written correction and consequences to dis-courage inappropriate behavior. Initially when addressing
misbehavior, I want to ensure the student is aware I am close and notice the behavior and begin slowly with a look of disapproval,
then maybe a gentle touch, and next a positive way to re-direct behavior either verbally or movement of the student. Moving the
student would be, having the student move front the carpet, back to their desk. This would occur after a verbal warning and if they are
not able to participate appropriately. Another option for students would be giving the student a choice to stay at the carpet if they
would be able to follow directions with the rest of the class or to choose to move back to their desk if not. I would also insist on the
student making good choices in all circumstances. If this positive re-direction or temporary movement does not support a change in
behavior, I would withdraw privileges from the student, or have them write reflections of their behavior after discussing the challenge
with them. If this still does not change the student’s behavior, I would contact the students’ parents and finally I would have them visit
the principal’s office. I will document all attempts to resolve the behavior issue with the student, parents and principle to ensure the
students is able to obtain an education.
Rules, Routine, Procedures:
I will begin the school year by pre-planning the rules I would like to establish with my students. I want to guide them towards creating
an environment that respects all staff and students, is safe, and is inclusive of all academic and ethnicities of students. My five top
rules will be: 1. Be respectful to all people 2. Listen and follow the teacher directions 3. Always keep hands, feet and objects to
yourself 4. Abide by all of the school rules 5. Only say words you would want others to say to you. I will list these rules in the
classroom for students and teacher to see. I will go over the rules on a routine basis, establishing them as foundational within the first
few weeks of school. I will go over them every day the first week of school, every other day the second and third week of school and
once a month for the rest of the school year as needed. When students return from long weekend or holidays, I will also go over rules
as needed to re-emphasis safety and structure within our classroom. I will discuss the rewards for following the rules as keeping the
teacher and all students safe. I will also communicate the importance of rules creating an adequate teaching and learning environment
for students learning not be hindered and to gain information. In addition to communicating rules to students I will also send a letter
home the first week of school informing parents of classroom rules and the consequences of rules not being followed by their child. I
will expect parents to go over classroom rules with students and return a signed copy to the teacher with both parent and student
signatures. Routines and procedures will also be emphasized the first week of school. I will ensure students are informed of classroom
procedures and practice them to ensure mastery. I will also clarify procedures to keep from any misunderstanding of them within the
first few weeks of school. We will reiterate them as needed through-out the school year, such as long weekends, or holiday breaks.
The first few weeks we will focus on classroom procedures that cover storage of class materials, how they are used and handed out.
We will also discuss what material will be kept at desk and what materials will be stored for later use through-out the year. Next, we
will go over sharpening pencils, turning in assignments, respecting the teacher desk, throwing away trash and being out of seat, getting
water, and rest room guidelines. Then, we will discuss transitions in between activities, morning and end of the day routines. We will
also touch basis on learning stations, iPad/technology centers and math and literacy stations, clean up and proper use. Finally, we will
go over fire, and emergency drills as a class and reiterate through-out the year with guidance and direction from the school and
district.
Instructional Strategies
My instructional strategies are based on a foundational belief that all students are authentic in abilities and come from diverse
backgrounds that shape their perspectives and intellect. Having sound strategies will contribute to my classroom management because
they will keep my students engaged, goal oriented and centered on exploring and learning to better themselves. Some key instructional
strategies include interactive approaches to aid with finding the meaning and purpose of information, lectures, classroom discussions,
informational videos, real life applications, and working in collaborative groups. As a teacher differentiating my instruction is
important because I acknowledge diversity among my learners by picking materials free of bias and accommodate all learning styles
by varying instruction. Supporting struggling or at-risk learners begin with identifying below grade level academics or behavior skills
beginning of the year. I will also support the gifted and talented students by identifying whether students have above average abilities
and accommodate them through above grade level curriculum instruction. When accommodating students with disabilities I will seek
the appropriate modifications and guidance from the schools and district as needed. Some instructional examples of supporting my
diverse students are learning activity packets, task cards, and learning contracts and proper use and guidance of 504’s and IEP’s as
necessary.
Reflection and Evaluation
In creating a classroom management plan, I will initially acknowledge that I will have diverse students within my classroom. I will
embrace all cultures, gender and learning abilities/disabilities within my classroom. I believe as a teacher supporting, embracing and
gaining knowledge of our differences is extremely important for accepting the uniqueness’s in life. The layout of my classroom will
afford an opportunity for teaching students how to use their environment to make sense of their learning. I will create a rich
environment of literature and concepts to enhance creativity and structure of learning. Our classroom will have learning centers,
technology access and group work to support diverse learning. It is very important for me as a teacher to develop a student teacher
relationship with students. I desire to get to know them as individuals and as a class. This will help me create great themes to support
curriculum when teaching. It will also aid with understanding them and support meaningful observations when inappropriate behavior
arises. Behavior management within my class will begin with developing a proper relationship with students and if needed positive re-
direction of misbehavior will be used as well. As a teacher I will communicate with parents by sending bi-weekly curriculum
information and behavior letters as needed based on appropriate and/or inappropriate behavior. I will go over rules and routines for the
classroom the beginning of the school year. This is important because it sets a foundation for students to follow and guidelines for
their behavior for the year. I believe having a good classroom management plan takes time along with failing and succeeding, to
ensure support and structure for both teacher, parents, students and the school.
