PRE- INSPECTION & PRE-INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

FOR SPECTROMAXx–LMX10

Kindly inspect for

 Any noticeable physical damage to the package from outside
 Any signs extreme tilt on the tilt indicators of the package

1. ROOM SIZE:

Dimensions of Bench Top Model is 790 mm X 660 mm X 450 mm (D x W x H) and Floor Model has a dimensions of 790mm X
660mm X 1350 mm (D x W x H).
The spectrometer should be installed in such a way that a clear space of at least 1 meter is available on both sides and back of
the spectrometer for ease of servicing. 5ft X 3ft (W x D) table required for Bench Top model.
The room should be properly isolated from the sample preparation room to prevent metallic dust entering to the spectrometer
room, also from chemical fumes coming from chemical lab.
Sufficient vibration proof mats / shock absorbers should be provided if vibrations in the spectrometer room are heavy.

2. AIR CONDITIONING:

The capacity of the air conditioner shall depend on the room size. Room temperature should be less than 25 C. The temperature
should not vary for more than +/- 3 C. over a period of 8 hours.

3. UTILITIES:

External PC: Customer has to provide PC with following configuration to meet the requirements of installing Spectrometer
Programs.

Specification:

Data Processing System (PC) (min. configuration)

 Intel Core i5 or i7 processor with higher resolution ( min 1920X1080)

 Min. 8 GB RAM
 Min. 500 GB Hard Disk Drive or better
 Keyboard and Scrolling Mouse
 USB ports
 10/100 Mbit Ethernet NIC (2 Nos.) (Compulsory)
 Original 64 Bit Microsoft Windows 10 Professional Operating System*
 Color Monitor (TFT >= 17“ recommended) and Printer

*If the customer provides an external PC should have a valid license of Windows8 Professional and have been
updated until the date of installation of Spectrometer software. In case, if the customer has not disclosed the
license copy and confirmed the purchase of original software. However, the software does not have any valid
license then, the customer is answerable to any legal implications due to the same.
Pg-1
ARGON CYLINDERS:

At least 4 nos. of Argon Gas Cylinders should be available at site for installation / commissioning purposes. The quality of
Argon Gas should be XL Grade of Linde or INOX or equivalent i.e. 4.8 (99.998% Ar) with O2<3ppm, N2<10ppm, H2O<5ppm,
HC<1ppm

For the analysis of Nitrogen/Oxygen: Argon > 99,999% with O2<0,5ppm, N2<0,5ppm; H2O<3ppm, HC<1ppm

If the Spectromaxx is equipped with N2/O2 analysis facility then Argon Gas Purifier (Imported) must be provided. The Argon
Gas cylinder should be equipped with double stage pressure regulator with SS Diaphragm of ESAB ISG-43 model TYPE-II (RH)
or BOC CONCOA model no. 312-4822 BS-03(RH), with 1st stage manometer shows the cylinder pressure and the 2nd stage
manometer shows the outlet pressure (Min 12 bar) and the end connection should be suitable for 6mm ferrule type connection.

The gas cylinder pressure (200 bars; 2900 psi) must be reduced by a regulator. The instrument inlet pressure should be 4.8 to 5.0
bar (69.6 to 72.5 psi). Use the provided the argon tube (3m; 6x1 mm) to connect the gas cylinder with the argon inlet at the back
of the instrument.

Attention: The use of a longer Argon tube or a smaller diameter can result in pressure loss. In such a case, the primary
pressure at the gas tank or cylinder has to be increased to guarantee the instrument inlet pressure of 4.8 to 5.0 bar (69.6 to
72.5 psi).

The argon consumption depends on the mode of operation:

• Constant flow: 9 l/h
• Analytical flow: 200 l/h

Important:
For the installation of the argon supply system, great care must be taken to ensure that pipes and valves are absolutely
free of oil, grease and other contaminations.

Normally 3 meter long Copper Tube of 6mm of outer and 4mm of inner dia. is provided with the spectrometer. If the distance
between Argon gas cylinder and the spectrometer is more than 3 meters then customer should provide one single piece of 6mm
copper tube according to the required distance along with compatible nut and ferrule. The nut should have mm threads for
spectrometer end.

POWER SUPPLY:

The Spectrometer requires input power of 220v 50Hz Single Phase power supply of 2.0 KVA It is highly recommended to install
an online UPS with inbuilt isolation transformer of 2.0 KVA rating. The main power supply and output of UPS must have a
good grounding and a leakage voltage between neutral and earth (Ground) should be less than 1 volt. Also, the grounding line
should not be shorted with neutral line to reduce leakage voltage, which is harmful to the spectrometer.

4. SAMPLE PREPARATION EQUIPMENT:

In order to achieve optimal and reproducible analytical results, it is necessary to prepare samples in an appropriate manner. The
aim of sample preparation is to obtain uniform grooves and flat sample surfaces.

 FOR STEEL SAMPLES/NI-BASE SAMPLES

High-speed circular disk grinder with min. RPM of 2500 and 60 grit grinding paper with suitable sample holder. Usually steel,
Ni-base and Co-base samples are machined on a belt grinder or on a disk grinder. Standard abrasive papers are made of
Aluminum oxide, Silicon carbide or Zircon oxide with a 60 coarse grain size. The grinding material may influence the analyses.
E.g., Aluminum oxide paper should not be used if the analysis of metallic and insoluble Aluminum is important.

 FOR CAST IRON SAMPLES

Cast samples may be machined on a belt or a disk grinder too. Usually cast samples are so hard that a pad sander with a
grindstone is preferred or a swing grinder with min RPM of 2500 with a suitable sample holder. If the swing grinder is not
available, use 40 grit papers with high-speed disk grinder. (Though this is not the best solution)

Pg-2
 FOR NON-FERROUS SAMPLES

Soft materials like Aluminum, Copper, Lead, Zinc, Magnesium, etc., should be machined on a high speed turning lathe or on a
mill. Make sure the appropriate sample preparation tools are available during installation of the instrument

5. STANDARD SAMPLES:

The customer must provide primary/secondary samples to verify the analysis and to check the reproducibilities of the
spectrometer. The standard supply of setup standards are meant for correcting curves of existing channels and to confirm the
present condition of machine to the Spectro’s software and does not mean that it can be used for cross verifying the results. The
setup standards are used to measure the intensities of all channels and it does not have any certified results to confirm or cross
verify the results of production sample or etc.
NOTE:
Upon arrangement of utilities, you are requested to send us the Check-list (page number 4 and 5) duly filled and signed for our
further follow-up.
