TIME MANAGEMENT
1. Learn to say no to what's not important.
2. Make a list of all the tasks you will do in the morning itself.
3. Follow Stephen Covey's urgent-important matrix. Divide all the tasks in the
list.
4. Schedule all the tasks that are important but not urgent. Fix a time slot when
you will read books or learn investment, etc. Most of your time should go into
these scheduled and planned tasks.
5. Do the urgent and important tasks one after another. As per Parkinson's law,
if exam is after a week, we will start studying just one day before exam. The
task itself isn't something that would take so much time but since you gave it a
week, it will take a week. When you start an urgent task, just finish it as soon
as you can instead of procrastinating or leaving it incomplete.
6. Then, come to urgent but not important tasks. First see whether someone
else can do it. If you are unable to delegate these tasks to anyone, then do
them yourself.
7. Then, lastly come to activities that are neither urgent nor important and
minimize them to 5% or 10% of your time.
8. Make a 7 day plan and build consistency. Track your progress.
9. Divide your time in different periods. You can give a few hours for
preparation for exams, a few hours for coding, etc.
HOW TO STOP PROCRASTINATING?
Growth mindset - Failures are important in life. They help you to grow.
Fixed mindset - You just see everything as winning and losing.
Regarding everything, we must have growth mindset. Rather than focussing on
the fear of not performing perfectly, we should focus on our input.
Set deadlines for your tasks.
If there's a big task due to which, you are afraid to begin it, then divide your
task in small and easy parts. If you have to create a PPT, then create just 3
slides at first.
Reward yourself after completing the task.
Change your environment: there should be a distraction-free environment.
Create a mindset like professionals. What will we think if we see doctors
procrastinating? If there's an important surgery and the doctor is
procrastinating and saying that he will do it after 15 minutes, how will it look?
Or if a lawyer has a hearing coming but he is procrastinating.
We can't imagine professionals doing this. We have to follow their lifestyle too.
When we make a commitment, we have to work consistently to fulfil that
commitment.
Professionals act according to their commitments, not according to their
moods. They give priority to their work.

30 DAY CHALLENGE
1. We have been wasting our life all these days. Now, it's time we change all
this.
2. If you have to break many pencils, you will break them one-by-one. Similarly,
attack your bad habits one-by-one.
3. Begin new habits in place of these bad habits. Recommended habits:
Reading, spending at least 10 minutes with family, giving some time to express
gratitude (be grateful for everything).
4. Make a table, which will contain 10 activities. First 2-3 will be the activities
that you want to make your new habits. Rest 7-8 will be ordinary activities such
as attending classes.
5. Total 10 activities should be there. Not more. Not less. Exactly 10.
6. Mark every day on the basis of the number of activities you performed that
day. Out of 10, if you performed 7 activities on a particular day, mark 7/10.
A Table has to be made as shown in this image.
10 activities will be there and you will mark them daily for 30 days.
If you complete 7 out of these activities, mark it 7/10 on that particular day.
6 THINGS I WISH SOMEONE HAD TOLD ME
EARLIER
I. 20s deception -
i. Expectation is freedom from control of parents etc. Real freedom is not that.
Real freedom is when you have control over your own life. What I am doing to
earn my livelihood, with whom will I spend my life, is my family happy with me,
can I take a vacation if I fall sick, do I have financial freedom - that is real
freedom.
ii. Family matters more than friendship and love.
iii. Satisfaction > Freedom
II. Serve your future you -
What do you want to become after 5 years? If you want to become an IAS
officer, start developing habits of an IAS officer. An IAS officer is disciplined, so
you too should start being disciplined from now. Are they humble and
grounded or just waste time with friends? How much time do they waste on
TV?
Start living the life according to the person you want to become.
III. Invest in yourself - time, energy, money
i. Improve your skills
ii. Personal growth
iii. Network
60 minute rule - At least 60 minutes a day for self-growth resources
(books/podcasts/videos/courses).
IV. 30 minutes early
Wake up just 30 minutes early. If you wake up at 11 AM, change that to 10:30
AM. After a few weeks, make it 10 AM and so on. Gradually, fix it using this
method.
V. Fun fading syndrome
Something that you like a lot - you will like it less after some time. In college,
many friends will tell you to do this and that. If you do it, in the beginning, it
will feel good but there will come a point when you will feel very bad about
yourself. Ask your future self before starting any such thing.
You may say "my uncle drinks in moderation but he's still doing it at the age of
50." Then, he is a slave of it. You are happy when you have control over your
life.
VI. Finding your purpose
Find your purpose. To achieve your purpose, you will have to become your
best form. And for that, you will have to control your life, your senses and your
lifestyle.
BEST STUDY TECHNIQUE
Generally, when we study, we notice that we study very ineffectively. We do
something in 4 hours, which we should have done in just 30 minutes.
However, the day before exam, we study very seriously. Our parents say, "if
you studied like this everyday, you would have topped."
During exam, you have a clock and you check how much time has passed and
how much time is left. We are very alert and our productivity is also high.
Assign three hours of power everyday at different times.
E.g. - If it's a holiday, you can assign one hour of power from 10 AM to 11 AM,
then another at 3 PM to 4 PM and then another from 9 PM to 10 PM.
In this one hour (hour of power), you will get result of three hours. First of all,
give much respect to this hour and treat it like an examination hour. During
this hour, there should be no phone around you. There should be a watch on
your left hand or in front of you. There should be a water bottle. Do toilet
before beginning of this hour. Don't go in between. There should be no excuse
to leave the study table for this one hour. Every minute is very precious. In
exam, schedule is fixed. For example, if you are going to give English paper,
you will do comprehension within, let's say, 15 minutes and writing within,
let's say, 50 minutes. Similarly, for this one hour, you should have a schedule
for every minute.
First decide what you will do in this one hour. Give yourself something
challenging. Now, divide it in four parts. After 15 minutes, check the clock. If
you are going slower than you had planned, increase your speed just as you do
in exam.
For this one hour, you must use table and chair for studying and not your bed.
Because you give exam on table and chair.
Ensure that nobody disturbs you. Close the door. Tell everyone in the house
that your exams are coming and so you are studying.
The purpose of this is to push your limits. How much can you do within 60
minutes? Put all your energy in that one hour as if your life depends on it.
If you do 2-3 hours of power within a day, then your productivity and
confidence will increase many times.
Make a schedule. For example, on Monday, you may have school, so you may
decide to do 2 HOPs while on Sunday, you may decide to do 3 HOPs.
Reward yourself if you do 2-3 HOPs in a day.
THE BEST TIME TABLE FOR EVERY STUDENT
i. Sleep for 7 to 8 hours. Never let it be less than 6 hours.
ii. First hour: Your first hour in the morning is very important. In this first hour,
don't give any time to social media or any screen. If you wake up early, see
sunlight. Be in sunlight for 5 to 10 minutes. You will get very positive vibes.
iii. Long-term timetable: What you are going to do in the next 2-3 months. For
example, you may have boards, pre-boards, practical exams, etc. Now,
determine how much time you have for each subject. Now, write your
timetable date-wise, writing 1-2 lines next to each date.
iv. Don't study a single subject for several days. Study at least two subjects in a
single day.
v. Revision is very important. Three things to remember:
(a) When you are revising something, write at least 10% of it in your notebook.
(b) Create flash cards: If you read 10-15 pages, write the main and important
points in a single page.
(c) Revise for at least 5 to 6 times.
vi. Create a timetable everyday. Create a to-do list and a schedule for the tasks
you will do and at the end of the day, check how many of these tasks you
actually did.
vii. Announcement: Everyday, announce it to your parents something like:
today, I created a timetable and according to it, I'll study for 12 hours. Ego will
also come here. You will think you have to do it now and you have to prove
your capabilities.
viii. Environment isolation: Open your gate so that your parents can see you
but tell other people to not come in your room to disturb you.
ix. Study on chair and table, not bed.
x. Use pomodoro: Study for 25 minutes and then take rest for 5 minutes.
Gradually, you can increase your capacity. You can study for 50 minutes and
take rest for 10 minutes. You can study for 2.5 hours and take rest for 30
minutes.
xi. Have long hour sittings. Study for at least 2 hours in one setting.
Weekdays: 2 hours + 2 hours + 3 hours
Weekends: 2 hours + 2 hours + 3 hours + 3 hours
xii. Eat that frog: This book says that do the most important tasks first. Then,
do what is less important. Then, do what is even less important. And so on. It's
important to prioritize things.
BEST STUDY STRATEGY FOR ANY EXAM
Blunders -
i. Multitasking - You are studying and simultaneously doing something else too.
If there's a message on WhatsApp, you will get distracted and reply to it. You
are checking statuses of people while studying. Never do multitasking.
ii. Study environment - Don't allow anyone or anything in your study
environment. Also, study on table and chair and not on bed.
iii. Mobile slot - Delete useless and distracting apps. Turn off notifications. Even
if you choose to use social media, give it 30 minutes or less.
iv. Elephant - It looks quite small when it's far. When it comes close, you realize
how big it is. The same happens with exams. 3 months before exam, we feel
we've a lot of time. A week before exam, we start panicking and we feel we
didn't study anything. Hence, creating a schedule is very important.
v. Ego fight - "This guy called me an idiot in front of the whole class. I felt very
bad." Don't do ego fight on these issues. Instead, ask yourself "Can I write self-
affirmation about myself everyday? Can I score 98%? Can I get a good rank in
JEE? Can I get this college?"
vi. Sleep schedule - Sleep for 7 to 8 hours everyday.
Must-dos
i. Positive affirmation - We live in a society where we get negativity the whole
day. We are often in an insecure mood. We don't need negative vibes. We
need positive vibes. Write a few good things about yourself everyday. Write
your gaol in the morning. Tell yourself at least 25 times in the day that you can
do it.
ii. Consistency is very important.
iii. Your self-study time should be greater than your tuition time.
iv. Parent yourself - If your friend calls you for some time to have fun, tell
yourself "no, preparation is more important."
Study strategy
i. Aim - What is your aim? Are you studying for 12th boards? Are you studying
for JEE? You must know your aim. You should know what is your focus.
ii. Plan - Suppose you have board exams and JEE after 3 months. You will have
to plan how much time you have to give to JEE and how much you have to give
to boards. Also, decide how much time you will give to each subject.
iii. Notes and writing - Make your own notes or use someone else's notes.
When you study or practice, write instead of just reading. When you are
reading, you may deviate. When you write, you will be focussed.
iv. Teach: Study something such that you have to teach it to someone else.
Focus on understanding rather than just memorizing.
v. Past year papers and sample papers for boards or competitive exams.
HOW TO COVER SYLLABUS IN LEAST TIME?
i. Watch videos.
ii. Read notes.
iii. Write important things while reading.
iv. Avoid distractions. Otherwise, you will lose all your time.
v. Schedule each minute of the remaining days.
FIGHT PROCRASTINATION
Thoughts create emotions, which lead to actions. Actions lead to semi-beliefs.
Then, we start searching for proofs to support semi-beliefs. Then, semi-beliefs
become complete beliefs. This cycle repeats.
E.g. - There's a boy in class II. He got low marks. His parents told him, "you
don't get good marks". His friends also told him the same thing. This puts
thoughts into the minds of the boy. These thoughts generate an emotion of
self-doubt in him. This emotion then decides his action. He thinks, "I don't get
good marks, so I don't even need to put much effort." So, he puts less effort
and hence gets low marks. He sees his low marks in his report card. Then, this
becomes a semi-belief. Then, more such report cards come, in which his marks
are low. Then, it becomes a complete belief. Then, this cycle keeps repeating in
class III, class IV, class V and so on. Within 5 years, it becomes a super-solid
belief and he thinks that the people who are successful have a very high IQ and
are different from him.
Self-feed positive thoughts. Do positive talks with yourself. Tell yourself, "I shall
get 97%" 20-25 times in the day. This thought will lead to an emotion. You will
feel, "yes, I can do it." This emotion will lead to its corresponding action. You
will put more effort. Then, you will get better marks, which will be proofs.
Then, it will become a solid belief.
If you have the belief that you can't quit wasting your time on the Internet,
then start with small steps. Right now, put down your device and start
studying. What did you do? You acted against your belief. You took a small
step against your belief. If you similarly break these beliefs every single day,
then your negative beliefs will get removed. By fulfilling our commitments, we
format our negative beliefs.
Positive input that we've to self-feed in our subconscious mind: Do self-
affirmation, read books on self-growth and personality development, read
motivational blogs, watch motivational videos.
Some people say "I watch motivational videos but don't nothing happens. I
don't put any effort." You don't put any effort because you already believe that
you won't put any effort. A motivational video gives a small push but isn't able
to break your negative beliefs. Watching motivational videos again and again,
doing self-affirmations again and again, reading self-growth books again and
again will help you break your negative beliefs.
You have formed these negative beliefs over several years. It will take a lot of
energy to remove them. It will happen in 5-6 months.
Always be positive.
Have a very big dream. Don't aim to score 95% in boards. Make 98% your goal.
LAW OF ATTRACTION
In every failure of your life, you have been winning. You are a born champion.
Whatever you thought in your mind has been proven to be true.
E.g. - Suppose you enter into a relationship with the belief that you are not
complete and you are not compatible with anyone and you can't have a love
marriage. You also have the beliefs that you are not funny, you have anger
issues and you believe that if you enter into a relationship, breakup will
happen. You were telling verbally that you want a healthy relationship but you
hadn't input the same thing in your subconscious mind. So, when the breakup
happened, it's your victory. You were working for it every single day because
such were your beliefs. You had the belief that you are not compatible. So,
your subconscious mind did everything it could to make sure the breakup
happens.
Your subconscious mind is wired to win. Whatever you put in your
subconscious mind will get executed. If your conscious mind says you want to
crack UPSC but deep inside your subconscious mind you have inputted that
you just want to survive, then you can't crack UPSC.
95% of the activities you do are controlled by the subconscious mind and not
you. You are on an autopilot mode. Haven't you ever thought, "while watching
TV, I didn't realize how I finished my food."? All such things are happening
subconsciously. Only 5% of the activities we do in a day are done by our
conscious mind. That is the power of your subconscious mind.
Why are you reading it? Deep inside your subconscious mind, there might be
some thought or goal that you might have put in your childhood. You might
have thought that you want to do something big in life. Probably, due to that,
you chose to read this instead of watching an entertainment video.
Whatever has happened in your life till now, whatever path you have chosen -
All that has been dictated by the subconscious mind.
If you are a procrastinator, you are an amazing procrastinator and you are
winning in procrastination. You are able to procrastinate things till the last
moment.
If you are not good in studies, notice how many times you break your
timetable during the day. You will see that in your domain, you are winning
perfectly.
Your subconscious mind is wired to win. If you have put such beliefs like "I am
a loser" and "I can't do anything" in your subconscious mind, then it's no
wonder that the same is happening in your life.
You are already winning in your domain. You just need to change your domain.
Since our subconscious mind is wired to win, we just need to ensure we have
put the right things in our subconscious mind.
Suppose your goal is to lose 12 kg weight in a year. That means you have to
lose 1 kg weight every month. That means you have to lose 33 grams weight
everyday. 1 gram fat has 9 calories. So, you need to burn 300 calories everyday
or consume 300 calories less everyday. Subconscious mind is like a pipe which
is open from both sides. When you forcefully put water in the pipe from one
side, then the water already there will leave from the opposite side. Similarly,
when we put positive things (positive thoughts, our goals, our dream) in our
subconscious mind, then negative things will eventually leave. However, this
takes time. It also takes imagination, thinking and positivity.
Narrative self-talk: I want to lose 12 kg weight in a year.
Assertive self-talk: I shall burn 300 calories today.
THE POWER OF SELF-TALK
While you eat, you talk with yourself. While you go from home to school or
vice-versa, you talk with yourself. Even while reading this, you are talking with
yourself.
Our talks (whether with ourselves or others) define our emotions and our
emotions define our life.
Our negative feelings don't come from big events like failing in JEE. Our
negative feelings from small events. Suppose you don't bathe or brush teeth
today or you forgot to take your project to school. These are small events.
When all this accumulates, that is what causes negative feelings.
We think over 50,000 thoughts everyday and they depend on these small
things.
"I didn't brush my teeth today", "I didn't bathe today", "I forgot to bring my
project" = When these thoughts accumulate, that is what causes negativity in
our mind.
So, to avoid that, we have to sort out these small things quickly. We shouldn't
let them decrease your self-belief.
All the small things that make you feel bad about yourself - work on all of
them. Your self-confidence and self-belief will increase exponentially.
The 50,000 thoughts we think everyday go deep into our subconscious mind
and become a part of us. According to scientists, the structure of our brain can
change due to our thoughts. There is desert. When you go there, there will be
footsteps. When a few more people will use the same path, footsteps will
increase. If 10,000 people use it, it will become concrete path. Similarly, when
we think a thought thousands of times, it creates a neural pathway. This is
called neuroplasticity in scientific terms. Our brain can adjust according to our
thoughts.
Your reality is not dependent on your circumstances. It is dependent on your
subconscious mind. There are examples of a farmer's son topping in
competitive exams and at the same time, we see that there are many rich
students who are getting all facilities and the best teachers but fail in these
exams. This wouldn't have happened if your reality was dependent on your
circumstances.
Before 1954, the whole world thought that it is humanly impossible to run 1
mile (1.6 km) within 4 minutes. But in 1954, Roger Bannister proved that it is
possible.
Before 1954, nobody had been able to do this. But once Roger Bannister did it,
another person did it within 46 days. And within a year, 15 to 20 athletes did it.
What is it that thing that wasn't there before 1954? That thing was belief.
Before 1954, people thought nobody can do it. When people saw Roger
Bannister doing it, they realized they can also do it.
This is the power of belief. This is the power of your subconscious mind.
Self-talk is of 2 types: narrative and assertive.
Narrative self-talk is in future tense. E.g. - I shall become a successful person. I
shall achieve this goal. I shall become a millionaire. I shall be relentless.
Assertive self-talk is in present tense. It is confident and forceful. E.g. - For
becoming a millionaire, I need to work a lot - 100 hours/week, so I shall work
for 12 hours today. I shall study for 12 hours today. I am relentless. I shall do
this today.
Practical example: When you wake up, you tell yourself, "I shall work for 8
hours today. So, I am creating a timetable." After 2 hours, you check your
timetable and say, "I had to do this. Did I do it? Oh, I didn't do it. Let me do it
now." You do this self-talk 20 times during the day.
In all his videos, Aman Bhaiya says board exam is the easiest exam of your life
because of two reasons –
(i.) It's true.
(ii.) (ii.) When you hear this, you develop belief that you can do this.
This is applicable for everything in life, not just board exams. When you feed it
to yourself that it's easy, it becomes easy. When there's a small problem but
you start thinking it's a very big problem, then it really becomes a very big
problem. If you think it's just a small hurdle, then it gets solved easily.
