Average (LPA) by 26%. Cumulative seasonal rainfall (01 June to 17 August) is higher than LPA by 10%.

The western end of the monsoon trough is likely to shift to north of the normal position from 19th August and
remain so during next 2-3 days.

Madhya Maharashtra, UP and Haryana

The monsoon trough is very likely to north of its normal position during 1st half of the week. The eastern end
shift gradually southwards during 2nd half of the week 2.
Rainfall activity is likely to be normal to above normal over Peninsular India, parts of east central India,
Jharkhand, Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh. It is likely to be near normal over rest parts of the country outside
Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Odisha, some parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat, west
Madhya Pradesh and northwest India where it is likely to be below normal.

II. RESERVOIR STORAGE (AS ON 18 AUGUST, 2022)

Current Live Storage in 143 reservoirs was 135.04 BCM(or 76%) of Total Live Capacity of 177.46 BCM.
Current year’s storage is 112% of last year’s storage and 125% of normal storage.

IV. FERTILIZER POSITION:

Availability of fertilizer has been comfortable. Details of Requirement, Receipt, Availability, Sales and Stock
position of Major Fertilizers (UREA, DAP, MOP, Complex and SSP) during Kharif 2022 as on 19.08.2022 is given
below:

V. PEST & DISEASE

Overall intensity of pests and diseases remained below Economic Threshold Level except White fly
(Bemisia tabaci ) on cotton in Punjab , Haryana and Rajasthan and Jassids (Amrasca biguttula biguttula ) on
cotton in Haryana & Maharashtra , White grub (Holotrichia serrate) on Bajra and Cluster beans in Rajasthan,
Pink boll worm, Bollworm complex, Boll rot on Cotton, Spodoptera, Semilooper, Girdle beetle, stem fly on
Soybean & Fall army worm on Maize and Sugarcane from Maharashtra.
VI. SEEDS
There is sufficient availability of certified/quality seeds of all major Kharif crops for Kharif-2022.
Certified/Quality seeds availability was 177.97 lakh quintals against the requirement of 160.45 lakh quintals in
the country for Kharif-2022 season. An overall surplus of 17.52 lakh quintals of seed is available for Kharif-2022.
Certified/Quality seeds shortage was in some states in some commodities.

VII. HORTICULTURE (AS ON 17 AUGUST, 2022)

As of now out of the Kharif targeted area, sowing of 37.53% under Onion, 64.94% under Potato and
51.29% under Tomato have been completed.

Kharif Onion
Sowing/transplanting is complete in Uttar Pradesh and continuing in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh,
Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana.

Kharif Potato
Sowing is complete in Uttarakhand and continuing in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Kharif Tomato
Sowing/transplanting is complete in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and is continuing in Maharashtra,
Karnataka, MP, AP, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

VIII. CROP SOWING POSITION

During the current Kharif season 2022 (as on 18.08.2022), 1012.99 lakh ha area has been sown which has
shown decrease as compared to last year, which was 1038.51 lakh ha. The gap of less area coverage has
been narrowed down significantly from last week. Area sown under Rice was 343.70 lakh ha as compared
to 374.63 lakh ha of the corresponding period of last year. Area coverage under Pulses has been reported
125.57 lakh ha against 132.65 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year. Area coverage under
Coarse Cereals has been reported 172.78 lakh ha against 167.42 lakh ha during the corresponding period
of last year. Area coverage under Oilseeds has been reported 184.42 lakh ha against 185.85 lakh ha during
the corresponding period of last year.

Sowing Progress under Rice

The less area coverage under Rice mainly recorded in the states of UP, Bihar, WB, Jharkhand, Odisha, MP,
Chhattisgarh and Telangana.

Sowing Progress under Arhar (Tur)

Area coverage under Arhar (Tur) has been decreased by 3.36 lakh ha. as compared to the corresponding
period of last year

Sowing Progress under Moong

Area coverage under Moong has been marginally decreased by 1.56 lakh ha. as compared to the corresponding
period of last year.
Sowing Progress under Bajra

Area coverage under Bajra has been increased by 6.78 lakh ha. as compared to the corresponding period of
last year.
Sowing Progress under Maize

Area coverage under Maize has been increased by 1.18 lakh ha. as compared to the corresponding period of
last year.

Sowing Progress under Groundnut

Area coverage under Groundnut has been decreased by 3.63 lakh ha. as compared to the corresponding
period of last year.
Sowing Progress under Cotton

Area coverage under Cotton has been reported 124.27 lakh ha. against 116.51 lakh ha. during the
corresponding period of last year i.e. increased by 7.76 lakh ha.

OBSERVATIONS:

The shortfall in rice coverage is recorded (-)30.92 lakh ha compared to the corresponding period of last year.
The major deficit is mainly reported from the states of Jharkhand (11.40 lakh ha), West Bengal (6.31 lakh ha),
Bihar (3.41 lakh ha), Odisha (3.27 lakh ha), UP (2.78 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (2.37 lakh ha), MP (1.67 lakh ha) and
Telangana (1.22 lakh ha) due to excess/ deficit rain and diversification to other crop.

Area coverage under Arhar (Tur) is 43.38 lakh ha against 46.74 lakh ha i.e. decline in area coverage by 3.36 lakh
ha. Major States of concern are Maharashtra (-1.46 lakh ha), Telangana (-1.33 lakh ha), Jharkhand (-0.84 lakh
ha), AP (-0.63) and Karnataka (-0.43).
