Background of the Study
The purpose of this research is to investigate the potential benefits of using avocado, broccoli
and coffee as a body scrub. Body scrub is a body care product that can be
used to maintain healthy skin (Putri et al), preliminary findings suggest that the three ingredients
may be beneficial for overall skin health. Body scrubs are a type of exfoliant that removes dead
skin cells from your skin with abrasive ingredients. They are a popular choice for people who
want to cleanse and refresh their skin. This product can help promote skin cell turnover, which
could help improve the appearance of skin and help prevent future breakouts. Today, air
pollution and UV rays are powerful because of the pollution caused by people. Skins are at a
higher risk of getting sunburns, skin cancer, or other skin diseases.
Avocados and broccoli are both good for the skin, with the broccoli’s rough flowers being used
as the main exfoliant agent. They both contain vitamins and nutrients, as well as beta carotene,
protein, lecithin, fatty acids, and vitamins A, D, and E. These help moisturize and protect the
skin from damaging UV rays, while also increasing collagen metabolism. As for the coffee, it
has full of antioxidants that can make our skin healthy and energized.
By using the three main ingredients, the researchers were able to reduce the risk of using
chemicals as their main ingredients. These chemicals include parabens, sulfates, phthalates,
fragrance, formaldehyde and other chemicals that can damage our skin. The chemicals in some
skin products can cause skin irritation and environmental damage. This study suggests that using
natural ingredients, such as avocado and broccoli, can be beneficial for overall health.
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to investigate the effects of Avocado, Broccoli and Coffee to the skin and its
effectiveness.
Specifically, this seeks answer to the following questions.
1. What are the beneficial effects of the body scrub?
2. How can Avocado, Broccoli, and Coffee repair and enhance the skin?
3. Can natural body scrub lessen the use of harmful chemical ingredients to the skin?
4. What are the primary purpose of this study and what statement does this body scrub would
like to clarify?
5. Exact measurements of the substances that the researchers will be using.
Scope and Delimitation
The aim of this study is to create a body scrub by using Avocado, Broccoli, and Coffee and to
investigate its effects. Students from San Francisco High School of Quezon City, which is
located in Bago Bantay, Metro Manila, were selected to participate in the study that will
investigate the effects of the experiment on their skin.
This research are applicable to individuals who are eager to enhance their skin. Materials that
will be used are Avocado, Broccoli, Coffee, Bowl, Food coloring, Essential oil, Jar, Strainer,
Measuring cups, and preservatives that will make the product last longer.
Significance of the Study
The researchers believe that this study will help users to exfoliate, treat hyperpigmentation, and
hydrate their body skin.
People who have uneven skin tone, have dry and rough skin. In particular, people who have skin
problems by using this product will help them to unclog pores, remove dead skin cells, prevent
acne, prevent skin aging, and smoothens their body skin.
Research shown that there are many harmful chemicals that are presence in a scrub. The
researchers aim is to lessen the use of unhealthy chemicals to our skin that cause damage or
make it worse. Using the Avocado, Broccoli and Coffee as an alternative can lessen the
chemicals and improve the skin.
This study is conducted to benefit the following:
Students. This study may serve as a guide and reference for the students undertaking similar
studies.
Teachers. This research will aid them in their discussions regarding related lessons. It will be
easier for them to tackle related topics about this research.
Future Researchers. This research will be a useful reference for students in Grade 12 Stem
course.

Avocado (Persea americana) Consumption Increased Skin Elasticity and Firmness in Women
(Susanne M Henning et al. J Cosmet Dermatol. 2022 Sep.)
The researchers assigned thirty-nine female participants with different age and with Fitzpatrick
skin type II-IV. They were randomly assigned to consume either one avocado daily or continue
habitual diet for 8 weeks. Using cutometer on the forehead and under eye they determine the
changes on facial skin. The results were positive, and we have learned that the daily consumption
of avocado is effective in enhancing the facial skin.
Skin photoprotection and consumption of coffee and polyphenols in healthy middle-aged
Japanese females
However, little is known about the effects of coffee and polyphenol intake on skin health.
Subjects with higher total polyphenol consumption from coffee or chlorogenic acid (third tertile
group) had the lowest UV spot scores (P<0.
We speculated that coffee may help protect human skin from photoaging, and polyphenols,
including chlorogenic acid, may help reduce hyperpigmentation around pigment spots.
Skin photoprotection and consumption of coffee and polyphenols in healthy middle-aged
Japanese females
Coffee and polyphenol consumption was associated with low facial pigmented spots in Japanese
middle-aged females. We speculated that coffee helps protect human skin from photoaging, and
polyphenols, including chlorogenic acids, may contribute to the decreased hyperpigmentation of
pigmented spots.
Revalorization of Broccoli by Products for Cosmetic Uses Using Supercritical Fluid Extract
Processing of fresh produce generates a huge number of by-products that represent an important
economic and environmental problem when removed. In this work, an advanced extraction
technique using was applied to assess the revalorization of broccoli by-products, by performing a
comparative analysis with conventional extraction. The results indicate that the extracted fluid
from broccoli by-products could potentially serve as an ingredient for cosmetic products.
Definition of Terms
Exfoliant - a cosmetic product designed to remove dead cells from the surface of the skin.
Antioxidant - delay the oxidation on the skin.
Agent - substances capable of producing and effect on the skin.
Hyperpigmentation - a common usually harmless condition in which patches of skin are darker
than the surrounding skin.
Collagen Metabolism - hardening and improving the quality of the skin.
