Chapter 3: Consolidated Products Case

II. Objectives:
1. Company achieving its organization goals such as low production cost and
high production output.
2. Company hiring the lacking manpower needed for the operations of the
business.
3. The remaining employees not ending up quitting the job.
III. Alternate Courses of Actions:
1. The company or manager should buy new equipment’s or machineries. The
company being manufacturing company should invest more on the
equipment’s used for production because the equipment’s are the main tools
used in achieving the production goals of the company.

2. The company telling the plant manager Phil Jones to improve his leadership
style and behavior. Mr. Phil’s leadership styles and behavior has its
advantages and one of which is him achieving the goals and objectives of the
organization, but it also has its setbacks and one major downfall is the
employees quitting the job.

is a combination of Ben Samuels and Phil Jones in all its positive leadership
styles. A leader who is sensitive enough to think of the mental welfare of the

IV. Recommendation:
I recommend ACA #3: Which is the company a hiring a new manager who
possess the task-oriented and relations-oriented behavior. At the same time, it
should also be a manager who is a combination of Ben Samuels and Phil
Jones in all its positive leadership styles. A leader who is sensitive enough to
think of the mental welfare of the employees by creating a sound environment
to work with, yet also a leader who is goal oriented and who possesses the
cognitive ability to find ways to a achieve the goals by delegating the tasks
effectively to the employees.
I recommend this ACA because hiring a new manager is the best way for the
company to prevent further loss of employees and further creation of the
union, which could end up in legal issues that may affect the image of the
company, additional expenses that will be brought up because of the matter,
and DOLE coming in for an investigator and may lead to further damages. I
believe that changing the manager is the best option that is because Mr. Phil
the current manager has created mental traumas for the employees that is hard
to forget, and these traumas maybe instigated just by being in the presence of
Mr. Phil. Some of these traumas are the fear of losing their job just by one
mistake, losing their job when performance goals are not achieved after 12
days from the first warning, and when an employee makes a mistake, he will
be reprimanded in front of everyone. These mental traumas are gained both by
the quitting employees and remaining employees. Even if the company will
address Mr. Phil about some of its leadership manners the chance of changing
those manners in a short amount of time will be difficult to do, that is because
those behaviors have been engraved in his system and will be difficult to
change. It is his signature style of management for years. So, the best way is
for the company to hire a new manager who will be a fresh addition to the
management; someone who will ease the mental traumas of the remaining
employees; and who will create a good environment to work in yet someone
who achieves the goals and objectives of the company by proper task
delegation and handling. A new manager could also bring new ideas for the
company on which could help in the betterment and improvement of the
company as a whole.
