SCIENCE Interaction in The Ecosystem

The lesson plan describes different types of symbiotic relationships in an ecosystem such as mutualism, commensalism, parasitism, predation, and competition. Examples of each relationship are provided, such as clownfish and sea anemones demonstrating mutualism, and mosquitoes being parasites. The interactions between organisms can benefit some, harm others, or provide equal benefit, and are important for the survival of living things.

LESSON PLAN IN SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP IN ECOSYSTEM

Subject: SCIENCE 4 Date: MARCH 7, 2023

Unit: INTERACTION IN A COMMUNITY Section: 4-CHARITY
Learning Competency: Describe the effects of interactions among organism in their environment (S4LT-IIi-j-
18)
Learning Targets: After the lesson, the learners should be able to…
a) Identify the different symbiotic relationships present in an ecosystem;
b) cite ways to preserve and protect the wildlife and;
c) discuss how the interactions affect other organisms.

Teacher Activity Student Activity

A. Introduction
Good morning class. Good morning teacher it’s nice to see you again!

Setting of Standards
What are we going to do if we are going to have an
activity Listen to the instructions carefully
Avoid unnecesarry noises
Raise your hand if you want to talk

Review
Class what do we call this again?

A Food Web

What is a food web? A Food web is an overlapping food chain.

How does it differ from a food chain? While a food chain follows a singular path of energy
from a producer to a top predator, food webs
illustrate the ways different animals are
interconnected and interact in a food chain.

Can you make a food chain from the food web

presented? Grass>grasshopper>frog>owl
Grass>Grasshopper>bird>snake>hawk
Motivation
Class, What do I have here in front?
(The teacher will present a Fish Bowl)

A Fish bowl

What do we see inside the fishbowl? A Plant and a Fish

Do you think the plant helps the fish survive? In what

way? The Plant has algae which is a good food for fishes.
An aquatic plant adds oxygen to the water and
absorbs carbon dioxide

Do you think, the fish helps the plant survive? In Fishes provide Carbon Dioxide and waste. This
what way? wastes are needed by the plants to covert it to
energy and turn it into an oxygen.

Do you know any other organisms that also interacts

the same way as the fish and plants where they
bothe benefit or one benefits from an organism? Caterpillar and the plant
The butterfly and flower

What do we call the interaction between organisms

where they live together, compete , benefits or harm
each other such as this Fish and plant?

B. Interaction
what do we mean by SYMBIOSIS Symbiosis is the interaction between two organisms
whether they harm or benefit each other.
Today, we’re going to have an activity. I’ll be
grouping you into 4. you are going to study the
pictures that I’ll be giving to you. Write your
observation in the activity sheet

Activity:
Group no._____

Eco-Interactions
Fill the table with all the interaction that you can observe
in the video. Write a pair of animals and place them in
SAFE if they can live togethera and in HARMFUL colum if
they can cause harm to one another
SAFE HARMFUL
Bird and Deer Whale and Krill
Can you give me a pair of animals that is safe if paire
togethee? Birds riding on a rhino
Butterfly and flower
What do we call this symbiotic relationship?

COMMENSALISM
is the rhinos/bird, harmed ?
No
Who benefits in the relationship the most?
The birds because they get free ride.
So what is Commensalism?

These are the other interactions in the ecosystem

that shows commensalism can you identify them? COMMENSALISM Is an interaction of organisms where
one is benefited but the other organism is not harmed.

Shark and remora

Buffalo and Egret

Can you give more examples?

What if the animals are both benefited for example,

can ou recognize this?
(the learners will give more examples)

Clown fish and Sea anemone?

Is the clownfish harmed? How about the sea

anemone?

How do they benefit each other?

Clownfish receive a safe place to live and even prey

to eat, and in return clownfish provide food to the
anemone, help rid it of harmful parasites, and chase
What do we call this relationship? away fish like butterflyfish that feed on anemones.

MUTUALISM
What is Mutualism?

Can you give more examples? MUTUALISM Is the positive symbiotic relationship
because both organisms benefit from each other.

Can you identify these?

(the learners will give more examples)
Mosquito

worm

What do we call these organisms?

Parasites
How do they affect other organisms?
They infect other organisms which may cause illness
What do we call this kind of relationship? which most likely will kill them.

PARASITISM it is an interaction between the

Parasite and the Host where one is benefited
Can you give me an example of parasitism? (parasite) and the other organism is harmed (host).

(the learners will give more examples)

How about the lions hunting animals?
What do we call that interaction?

PREDATION
What is Predation?
PREDATION is the interaction of animals where a
Predator hunts for another organism which is it’s
Prey to become it’s food for survival.
Who is the Predator in the interaction?

The Lion
Who is the Prey?

These are the other Examples of predation. Can you The Zebra
identify them?

The Spider and a fly

How about the Interaction of hippos or Impalas The bear and a fish
fighting each other?

What do we call that interaction?

What do you think they are fighting for?

COMPETITION

What is Competition? For food

For partner
These organisms are example of competition. Can
you Identify these organisms? COMPETITION
Organisms fight against each other to meet their
own needs or for survival. They also compete for
resources so there could be one will succeed.

Trees

Take note, competition does not necessarily mean Crane bird

fighting through violence. Some organisms has other
way to compete.

 Trees compete in for the sinlight by extending

their parts to receive more resources
 Crane birds doing courtship dance for the
female bird. By doing so, female bird can choose
who to to become its partner.

C. Integration
how do organisms interact with each other?
Organisms interact with each other in a way that
some are benefited, some are harmed and some are
benefited equally.
When do the interactions of the organisms become
Harmful/helpful? These interactions become necessary for their
survival

Describe the beneficial and harmful interactions

among living things. Interactions in the ecosystem helps in maintaining
the balance of the nature. Animals, parasites, living
things or non living things play an important part in
the ecosystem.

It becomes harmful when the predatory animal

become dominant. It will cause animal migration or
worst it can make species of animal extict.

Describe the effects of the interaction in their

environment. The interaction helps in the environment by bringing
the groups of animals into harmony. For example, if
the community of wild goats have sufficient supply
of food or habitat they are most likely to repopulate
in that place. This will also lure predatory animals or
other animals that will benefit in the existence of
these organisms.
Where can we relate this interaction? In what way?
The Classroom is like an ecosystem because we are
in a community, some help each other and some are
What symbiotic relationship do you show to the not. In short, we are different from one another.
