Ans: Obstacle can be defined as a man-made or natural barrier used for preventing
someone to enter any prohibited or restricted place.
The obstacle can be large, medium or small in size directly proportional to the
need for using it.
Gate Vault: This is a wooden structure which has two beam at height
of 3 ft and 5 ft respectively, both 18 ft long. Once has to cross the gate by holding
upper beam with both hands and by putting one‘s feet on 3 ft gate and jump
across.

7. What are the important thing that a cadet should know about standing and walking?
Ans: Standing Posture: Standing posture of an individual is generally considered as the
basic posture from which all his other postures stem. Erect standing posture is literally
static, in it reality is movement upon a stationary base. The application of the principles of
stability to a standing position i.e., balanced and free from muscular and ligamentous strain,
would be that the line of gravity of the centre of the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis fall in a
straight line. In standing position, weight should be equally distributed between the ball of
the foot and heel.
Walking: In a dynamic movement like walking, the force should be directed, as
much as possible, in a straight line, intersecting the major joints, the foot, knee, hip and the
shoulders. At the same time, the spinal curve should be minimized. The head should be held
in a comfortable and natural position, the hands should move in a synchronized movements
with the legs, in a tension free movement.
8. What is slithering?
Ans: The literal definition of the word slithering is to slide or glide, like a reptile. This can
be better explained as descending from a height. It is also known as fast roping. Fast‐roping,
also known as Fast Rope Insertion Extraction System (FRIES), is a technique for
descending a thick rope. It is useful for deploying troops from a helicopter in places where
the helicopter itself cannot touch down.
