01 Overview
Founded in 1910, Gyeongsang National University (GNU), located in South Gyeongsang Province, is a national
flagship university representing the Republic of Korea and is ranked in the top 20-30 universities in the nation.
In particular, GNU has fostered a number of excellent talents required for the world-leading industries, especially
focusing on specialized fields of mechanical and aerospace engineering, life science, nano and advanced materials,
and chemistry.
In order to realize GNU’s globalization, we are also operating quality programs and providing generous scholarships
to help the successful study of international students, such as free Korean language programs, cultural experience
programs, and scholarships.
Jinju, where GNU is situated and residents enjoy reasonable living costs, is proud of its long history with brilliant

09 Introduction to BK21 Programs
◎ What is Brain Korea (BK) 21 Project?
- Supported by the Ministry of Education, BK21 was designed to enhance the research competitiveness of Korean
universities so that they can compete with world-class research universities.
- Back in 2020, GNU was selected for BK21 Phase-4 Project and is now leading the 4th industrial revolution by
cementing a sustainable system between academy and research, and implementing research tasks and projects in
promising fields of study.
