1 Scope

This specification defines the minimum mandatory requirements for manufacturing,


qualification, quality control, handling and shipping of fiber reinforced plastic manhole
and access covers with frames. These covers will have a clear opening up to and
including 1,000 mm and shall be used in areas subjected to pedestrian and/or vehicular
traffic.

2 Conflicts and Deviations

2.1. Any conflicts between this document and other applicable Mandatory Saudi
Aramco Engineering Requirements (MSAERs) shall be addressed to the
EK&RD Coordinator.

2.2. Any deviation from the requirements herein shall follow internal company
procedure SAEP-302.

2.3 If conflicts and/or deviations arise between this Specification and other Purchase
Order documents not specifically covered as exceptions by the Purchase Order,
the Buyer shall be consulted and a ruling shall be obtained by the manufacturer
in writing before work proceeds.

3 References

The selection of materials and equipment, and the design, construction, maintenance, and
repair of equipment and facilities covered by this standard shall comply with the latest
edition (at the project cut-off date) of the references listed below, unless otherwise noted.

4.2 Detailed Modifications of EN 124-5:2015

The following paragraph numbers refer to EN 124-5:2015. The text in each


paragraph below is an addition, exception, modification, or deletion to
EN 124-5:2015 as noted. Paragraph numbers not appearing in EN 124-5:2015
are new paragraphs to be inserted in numerical order.

4 Materials

4.2 Types of Composite Materials

4.2.2 [Addition] Composite Material C1

In the case of sandwich-made covers, the core material shall be fully covered
with FRP material at a minimum thickness of 3 mm.

The following materials shall not be used for the core, nor shall they form
any component of the core:
● Any type of steel (galvanized, stainless, etc.) or cast iron
● Aluminum
● Any type of wood

4.2.4 [Modification] Composite Material C3

Manholes fabricated with composite material C3, short-fiber reinforced


molding compound, are not allowed.

[Link] The covers shall be equipped with two Type 316L stainless steel, built-in
handles.

[Link] Covers having clear openings of less than or equal to 500 mm shall have one
centrally installed handle provided that each cover does not exceed 7 kg of
weight.

[Link] The handle(s) must not protrude more than 3 mm from the covers' upper
surface area.

[Link] For covers of higher classification than A15, the handles may be replaced by
lifting keyholes and suitable key lifters.

5.1.2 Safety locks and other accessories

[Link] Manhole covers with restrict access, shall be equipped with at least two,
built in, Type 316L stainless steel hvfgIP65 safety locks.

[Link] The safety locks shall be equipped with polyethylene dust cups to keep dirt
and soil out of the covers operation mechanism.

[Link] Any other metallic accessories of the covers such as bolts, nuts, washers,
anchoring, etc., shall be type 316L stainless steel or superior material.

FRP manhole covers and frames can be susceptible to mechanical damage


by impact, sharp edges, or scratching. Special consideration must therefore
be given to protecting these products from accidental damage.

All personnel involved shall be trained in the relevant procedures of


handling these FRP products.

Lifting, loading, unloading, and shipping shall be performed in accordance


with the Manufacturer's recommendations.

All materials and equipment necessary for on-site fabrication and installation
shall be stored before, during, and after shipment in a manner to prevent
cracking, twisting, bending, breaking, chipping, or damage of any kind to the
products or equipment, including damage due to exposure to the sun.

5 Saudi Aramco Inspection Requirements

Material purchased in accordance with this specification is subject to the requirements


of Saudi Aramco Inspection Form 175-121600 in addition to the inspection
requirements of the industry codes and standards referenced by this specification.

6 Documentation

This section provides a checklist of documentation required for the order and supply of
FRP Manhole and Access Covers with Frame in accordance with this specification.

6.1 Purchase Order Documentation

The Buyer shall provide the information detailed in Attachment 1 in all Requests
for Quotation and Purchase Orders.

6.2 Qualification Documentation

The Manufacturer shall provide evidence of compliance with the requirements of


this procurement specification as follows:
 Compliance Files
A file shall be kept of the reports and records that show compliance with this
specification for each of the FRP manhole covers and frames that are
supplied. The manufacturer shall provide access to the compliance file if so
requested by the buyer's representative.
 Qualification Summaries
The manufacturer, if so requested by the buyer's representative, shall supply
qualification summaries containing selective information from the
compliance reports.

6.3 Production Quality Control Documentation

The Manufacturer shall supply proof of compliance with the quality requirements

in accordance with the following requirements:


 Manufacturing Procedure
a) A manufacturing procedure shall be available for each component
variant to be supplied.
b) The manufacturing procedure shall be provided, if requested by the
buyer's representative, prior to the start of manufacture.
 Raw Material Certificates
Raw material certificates shall be available for all of components to be
supplied.

Production Quality Control Reports


Production quality control records shall be provided for all supplied
components within five working days, or other agreed period, after delivery
of the complete order or part thereof.

Manufacturer Pre-qualification
The manufacturing facility and the quality system are subject to audit.
The auditors shall inspect the plant for compliance with ISO 9001, special
provisions, the requirements of this specification and pre-qualification
testing.

6.4 Installation Documentation

The Manufacturer shall provide detailed instructions and all the components
required for successful installation. The Manufacturer shall provide detailed
instructions supported by an engineering drawing showing the cross-section of
the cover and the locations of all the components required to be used during
installation.
