BSRT-1A ACTIVITY 1
Tips for successful Caregiver and Patient Interaction Across Cultures.
1. Don’t treat the patient in the same manner you would want to be treated.
We must be aware that all manner that we can do is not suitable and may cause misinterpretation
for patients. They are not the ones who have to adapt, but we are caregivers. We’re the one who
handle different patients with different types of situational problems. We don't know that this
method is not suitable for patients, it may cause embarrassment. On the first time you saw your
patient, you must have give them a guess so, you must know what the techniques will use for you
to suit a patient. Also being a professional we must know how to handle such situations that are
not suitable for the patient. It is very important for us to have empathy on how we interpret
patients properly, we have no right to be rude, and it is not appropriate for the patient. We must
know our words and actions, showing kindness and proper treatment is a must. Yes, it is stressful
to handle different patients in different situations, but I think it must be very rewarding for us.
Giving them a place to be happy, patient has a problem and give them another is not the right to
be done. Which is wrong. It is an act where we can encounter the non-maleficense, a belief that a
medical professional should cause no harm. We are providing care for the patient, giving them a
chance to recover and bring them to good health. Therefore, giving them the right place and
giving them support makes patient comfortable with.
2. Begin by being more formal with patients who were born in another culture.
I think this is a hard thing to do, but in a way that being aware of such things especially the
cultures of the people in our surroundings for us we have no hate in terms of color, gender, and
other perceptions that the patients may have triggered. Because of the influence of others,
cultural diversity is difficult to define. Knowing their background information is necessary for us
to be able to adjust with this kind of situation. Not everything is suitable for them, there were
always misinterpretation especially during like then body languages and facial expression given
us to the patient during communication imposed on patients so it must be very important of being
knowing your actions infront of the patients. Allowing us to be more formal with patients were
born in another culture is very well manners giving them a right place and rights, the main
concept here is that developing an understanding to others. As we are surrounded by different
cultures and races it is very important to remember that we were all just people who are trying to
do the best we can. The mindset of the people are the one who brings misconception to others.
Sometimes the best way to find out about another culture’s norms is to ask other from that
culture to teach you about it and you will get a better response. Therefore, we must been aware to
our surroundings where we lived and appreciating peoples worth, we don’t need to hate others
for what they are we have no rights to choose.
3. Don’t be put off if the patient fails to look you in the eye or to ask questions about the
treatment.
We are responsible for entertaining patients regarding their needs. We are the ones who bring
them to a positive outcome and combat the things that affect the patient in terms of controlling
their situations. Fidelity is a way of being applied to this kind of situation, a way of being
faithful, but most importantly, it is knowing every words given to the patients. Giving them
respect is a way of giving them the opportunity to feel at ease. Become aware to patients other
conditions may help to bring up them to avoid unnecessary thoughts.
4. Don’t make any assumptions regarding the patient’s concepts about the ways to maintain
health, the causes of illness, or the means to prevent or cure illness.
Healthcare professionals must inform patients about advance directives and what types of
treatments they may choose to accept or not accept in a right way. A Trust is very important. The
right information can lead to patients' health. Giving a wrong and unnecessary information
brings patient’s harm. Some words are misinterpret but in an early well responsive right
information brings to a good deal.
*Humans respond positively to kindness and respect. People want to feel safe and secure,
especially in unfamiliar environment. Patients want to be free of pain and discomfort. Each
person is unique. Every human being is then influenced not only by a specific culture but life
experiences.
Begin working with patients will discover that every patient brings unique experiences and a
view life that you have not experienced.
