Remarks 1: For overseas production models, due to varying standard systems for steel sheets,
equivalent materials shall be selected upon coordination among R&D responsible for
development, manufacturing group, purchase group and press group. Drawing indications
according to overseas standards are also accepted.
When drawing indications based on overseas standards are applied, name, number and
designation of the standard are to be stated clearly.Example: When a British standard is applied:
BS 1449 Part 1 CRI (Standard Name, No, and Designation)

Standard steel sheet thickness
10Tae ed ee eee ee ee ee ee
Standard steel sheet thickness mentioned here is the sheet thickness chosen from the available
manvfacturing range in order to limit variations of sheet thickness to a certain extent.
Consequently, products having sheet thickness other than the standard sheet thickness but
within the available manufacturing range may be purchased, but should be avoided due to cost
increase involved with most of these cases.
3. SUMMARY FOR RESPECTIVE STEEL TYPES
Summary for respective steel types covered by steel sheet HES are as follows:
3.1 Mild Steel Sheet
This is applied to parts which do not require much strength. There are five steel types for
cold-rolled materials and three for hot-rolled materials, with many applicable coating types as.
well.
3.2 Commercial Type Steel Sheet es
This material is used for parts which require relatively high strengths such as tensile strength
of 340 to 440 MPa grade for cold rolled materials and 370 to 440 MPa for hot rolled materials.
Balance between strength and processability is relatively good and recommended for use for
ordinary parts other than parts with difficult processings.
Although two types of hot rolled materials, W and J, are available, basically J type has the
same lower limit as JIS yield strength, while W type has slightly lower values than JIS.
3.3 Bake-Hardening Type Steel Sheet
A Major feature is this material has low yield strength when it is pressed and it becomes
higher after coating because of aging hardening of distortion. And it has poor drawing
properties generally.
3.4 High Deep-Drawing Type Steel Sheet
This material is used for parts requiring both deep drawing performance and strength which
are provided only by cold rolled materials having a tensile strength of 340 to 440 MPa grade.
In comparison with the commercial type steel sheet, this material results in a superior drawing
finish while on the other hand, has the lower yield point.
3.5 High Yield Ratio Type Steel Sheet
This material is used for parts which require high strength, such as 90 MPa grade tensile
strength for cold rolled materials and 490 to 780 MPa grade tensile strength for hot-rolled
materials. Because of the high yield ratio (YP/TS) characteristics, this material has a high
strength but a rather poor finish performance.
3.6 Low Yield Ratio Type Steel Sheet
This material is used for parts which require high strength, such as 590 to 1180 MPa grade
tensile strength for cold rolled materials and 540 to 780 MPa grade tensile strength for hot
rolled materials. Because of the low yield ratio (YP/TS) characteristics, this material has
better finish performance than others with the higher strength, but, due to the low yield
strength, has weak points against large force.

4. COATING TYPE SUMMARY
‘The summary for coating types used in steel sheet HES are as follows:
4.1 Electrolytic Zinc Coating
‘This coating can be applied to any base material and is used mainly on light rust preventive
parts.
4.2 Electrolytic Zinc-Iron Alloy Coating
This coating can be applied to any base material and is used on SIDE OUTER but is being
replaced with GA. Currently, mainly used for single layer coating.
4.3 Electrolytic Zinc-Nickel Alloy Coating
This coating can be applied to any base material and is mainly used for motorbikes. It is used
on GAS. TANK but its current major use is as a single layer coating.
=
4.4 Hot-dip Galvannealed Coating
Because this coating wets the material, it can be applied to some selected base materials, At
Honda, this is the main coating for bodies (approximately 70 %), from the viewpoint of
corrosion resistance after coating.
